AH was the largest issue that destroyed diablo 3 the normal one and the real money one. If path of exile ever get a system like that it will fail.

lol the auction house wasnt the problem it was gold as a currency. cant happen since poe has another currency. i mean there are already buyouts in the game aka poe.xyz whenever i want to trade something and make an offer to the seller most of the responses are like "lol nty" "5 chaos or gtfo" do you accept only chaos? "yeah only chaos sry" and so on.
so if the"new" trade system ggg will implement isn tlike poe.xyz. it will fail because poe.xyz is good as it it. add an auction house with buyouts or leave it

Can't wait for this. The main time I search on xyz or explorer for gear and PM people to set up future trades, is while at work.
So this would really benefit me. I could trade directly, while AT work. Muhuhahaha~ ^.^

The people saying no buyout will ruin the new trade system are a little naive. If they had a buyout it would end up like D3 whereby the only people getting bargains would be automated scripts that can scan and buy items in milliseconds.
Pretty much this. If trading becomes automatic and instantaneous you will have 5 people running scripts all day to buy all the bargains and resell at normal prices.
It will be difficult for the other 99% of people to accumulate wealth through trading. No bargains, no flipping. You'll have to grind for 20 hours to make one exalt whilst the 5 script kids rule the economy.
You act like anyone other than the 1% is swimming in wealth right now. You can use the reason that the AH made it too convenient to trade, taking away from actually playing the game, but you can't say there weren't deals. The first time I used the AH in D3 more than tripled my dps for under 100,000 gold. Deals were everywhere.

The best way I can put it is, both methods have their pro's and con's, you can't really say one is more right than the other.
Not everyone prefers Coke over Pepsi, does that mean that the Coke's recipe is wrong?
I am not for or against buy-outs, but as GGG does not want to go that route, I see no real reason to create an issue to force their hand over this issue.

What I do is:
1)leveling by maps, friend's maps, and I donate
2)Sell whatever loot I get along the way
3)trade occasionally if you see a bargain on trade channel <-- optinal
4)Wealth accumulates
Works well for me

What players don't seem to understand: currently it is possible to sell OK stuff. I make about 3-4 ex a day selling 1-5 chaos items that I find while mapping. This is only because there IS effort involved in trading. As soon as GGG puts in a convenient way for trading, no one will be able to sell anything that is not (almost) perfect. Then the same players will start crying: "I never find anything that I can sell for a reasonable price, ps improve itemization."
The current state of trade mechanics (inconvenient and intransparent) makes sure that one can actually sell stuff. Be grateful for it.
I find it's much better to work for C notes that I can buy real food with and pay my electric and gas bills than to slave in PoE for exalts.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

As for how it works, the current plan is a combination of public stash tabs (to make it easier to find items) and separately, an asynchronous cross-instance-website trading system. You can basically trade (without buyouts) across the game and website. The trades and offers are still there when you log in later, so it's possible to trade with offline people or people who aren't in your game area or are on their phone or work PC.
This sounds fucking awesome. So excited for the trade patch whenever it does come!!!

Only 20 hours?
I'll take that.
