" Your understanding of what can be seen as competition is narrow. As long as you can measure it, people will compete over it. It's ridiculous to think that we're only competing in games if it's labelled as PVP. Everytime I start playing these loot-centric games, I fantasize about getting an unimaginably good drop that no one else who's playing has ever gotten etc. I seriously enjoy the thought. I also enjoy being able to do things others say they/I can't do. For example, when people complain about the difficulty of Dominus, that makes the thought of beating Dominus all the more enjoyable for me, which is a kind of competition you don't need PVP or even multiplayer to accomplish. I don't get it. If people don't like trading or party then they are free to play selffound but other people shouldn't be restricted, u choose it yourself, that autism-stile gameplay.

" See, I kinda understand this, but here's where it falls apart; You will never have an item that someone else won't have. We are all unique snowflakes, just like everyone else... I beat dominus on merciless wearing mostly white items, because they had the sockets linked how I needed. What does that say? It's the honest truth. Did it as a summoner, and the only yellow item I had was a shield, boots were blue, rest white. Don't believe me? Here's how I did it: Started the fight, ran and stood at the bottom of the stairs leading up, and spammed the hell out of summons with MI, Punishment and Vulnerability. Nothing came down the steps, all bosses died. Phase 2 of Dom I cast enfeeble + Temporal chains and ran around him in circles spamming more summons. The end. What kind of competition is this? I find it practically impossible to compete in an arpg like this. Greed? Envy? Sure, but a competition this ain't. I don't go race the guy on my block with a Hyabusa riding a 250c either. Do I envy that he has one? Not personally, but someone might I guess. I understand the wanting to compete, but I'm having a really hard time seeing where the actual competition is. I think the races are pretty cool in that regard, but for the standard game, I really fail to see any competition. Like, ok, someone has better gear than me, I am supposed to what? Want his kit? Can I waste his character and take it? No? Then what do I care? See, the analogy is flawed; in competitive endeavors, everyone is put at a level playing field in order to actually compete. Not the reverse. We don't give some guy in paintball an automatic rifle while the rest get pistols. That's not a competition, that's unfair and unsportsmanlike. Professional sports; performance enhancing drugs are disallowed, etc. They don't have races where one guy is in a super-car and the rest are in K-cars. This reads to me simply as greed and the desire for envy. If I would propose a competition, for PvE, it would be something like, beat Dominus, in hardcore, wearing only white items without using any orbs. Someone having a graphite hockey stick to shoot 100mph shots over my wooden capped around 60mph is not a competition. I'm sorry. Last edited by gr00grams#5298 on Dec 24, 2013, 5:54:31 AM
