I disagree, trading was a complimentary part of this genre of game. It has become the core part because it is so overwhelmingly easier, faster, better way to gear up. These games are always about finding the best build/gear to make the content easier to beat. Trading brought it to a new level, to the detriment of longevity of the game.

WRONG. Trade is supposed to be one of the major core parts of this genre. Along with grinding for levels, player vs player, boss farming, multiplier and a few others.

Trading creates endless interaction between players who would otherwise never speak to each other. It Creates friendships and stimulates the interaction between the playerbase.

True but not currency based trading. If you really want trading to be a major part of the game then make ALL orbs BOC or BOA and allow players to allow trade items

If you did that, players would find another currency. (Think SoJs, for example.)

It's also a bit hamfisted a solution.

Endless? Not really. Some interaction? Yeah. I've had a couple of pleasant conversations with people I have traded with. I've had far more unpleasant interactions, or interactions where I felt really guilty despite having done nothing wrong. (e.g. selling my surplus fusing orbs for chaos, then hearing a sob story about how they couldn't 6L and are now broke)

Not all interaction is positive -- and that's putting it lightly. Trading is by nature adversarial, even when both will benefit.
