But why does almost everything have to be RNG? How can it be called Hardcore when skill matter very little?
The experience we are designing Path of Exile around is the experience we had playing Action RPGs when we were younger - the thrill of the next item being potentially the best one you've ever seen.
Skill matters in combat. Skill matters in races. Skill matters in PvP. Skill matters in trading. Skill matters when checking the vendor and knowing what to look for. Skill matters when looking at white items on the ground and realising that one of them has chromatic sockets or is a really high itemlevel.
If you succeed at the above areas through your skill, then you receive more (and hence better, on average) random items. Without the RNG, it would not be fun.
I'm sorry but you go on about games you used to play but I seriously doubt you even play your own and have a first hand experience. And your definition of skill is quite hilarious Chris. You don't need 'skill' to know how to fucking to take your eyes from one place to another and see if the sockets are R/G/B, and for itemlvl everybody knows what itemlvl you're dropping by the area level, no skill there.. Combat isn't skill, it's just finding the strongest skill and spamming it because your idea of a difficulty modifier is higher life.

And the post by STFUxCharles is quite interesting too.
Chris: "Path of Exile’s economy is the most important element of the game to us".

Too bad they don't see how good the ARPG element of their game is...

Really? Cuz I play PoE knowing the next item I see will be a piece of vendor trash not worth the ID scroll. I knwo your heart is in the right place, but the arrow is way off the mark. Please, for the love of God, stop defending your decisions and start listening to the fans who are begging you to fix this game before we give up on it.

Also, what irks me a bit about Chris post, is that he makes comparisons with how it was to grind in D2, but forgets that the average gamers age has risen significantly. When I was 16-17, I had all the time in the world to do meph/baal runs, but right now, the situation is quite different. The things I was able to do with D2, it's not possible to with PoE. It's not realistic to expect the same dedication from gamers today, what they had with D2 decades ago.
Interesting market survey, btw:

No mod action. Business as usual.

---------------------------The "crafting" system is a complete abomination. Sorry but it is true. It adds literally nothing to the game other than annoyance and frustration and serves no strategic or skill value, rather simply a nested completely random slog through tons of orbs just to get features of an item to progress in the game. There may be underlying "economy" and grinding rationales behind the orb system but the reality is that is not fun on any level and really brings the enjoyment level of the game down significantly. There should be enough barriers in build, gear, monster AI, stat stacking etc...to make progression difficult and thought provoking not to need a gambling system on steroids to grind everything to a screeching halt. I am not convinced it does anything to make people play more, but it certainly will make people leave. It should be completely scrapped and overhauled to be honest. It is abysmal.----------------------

Not sure "completely scrapped" is necessary, but the overhaul part is for sue. Otherwise...

Well, I think we make time for the hobbies we enjoy. Regardless, everyone reaches a point where they say "This is futile. The rewards are not greater than the work. I quit."
GGG doesn't need to listen to the community, but I won't be donating again for... well.... we'll just give it some time to see what happens.

Been following this game for a long time.
I hoped that this game would turn out epic!
And it partially did.
Chris comment just makes me disappointed though.
Maybe ill come back to this game someday with the hopes that the devs will change the awful crafting/loot mechanic's
The devs remind me of the story, Frog in the well
