[VIDEO]The Battle Mage/Witch - CI cold crit [NEMESIS]

Hello,

thank you so much for this interesting build.

I'm quite new to the game, coming from Diablo 2, as a matter of fact I started a CI mage with freezing pulse before I got to read your guide.

I have a few questions, answers would help me greatly since I struggle a bit:

I tried ghost reaver but life leech doesn't apply since freezing pulse is not a physical attack. How do you manage to get it to work? I have no way to gain ES (neither flask nor life leech on ES), it makes it impossible to play

Also, I tried a build based on evasion instead of armor. I plan to go up to 60/70 evasion, with something like 2000/3000 ES. Do you think it's viable? I have never been in anything higher than act 3 Merciless, would that be something that works out in maps?

Thank you very much for your time,

Best regards

hi bro, i bet you played a lot of frozen orb sorc in d2 ;) well the way you make it work is kinda plain and simple you link your freezing pulse with life leech, life leech gem is not restricted to physical damage so you leech life that way as shown in the links that i posted on page one.

but great to have a diablo2 oldschooler here, and i hope you will like this game as much as diablo2 since i myself am a oldschooler from diablo2 days ;) gl with your freeze pulsor

Thanks for your answer,

You nailed it on the head! I was building frozen orbs sorcs as a first character every time on ladder so you can MF easily and gear up your next chars :)

Ok, I didn't know that, I'll go on with my build

Thanks again for your time and c u around someday :)
Just stopping by, giving a look at your build a couple of weeks after we're done arguing. It's quite nice to see you've decided to gather your ideas in a single build, it's way more pleasant to read and discuss them that way. Looks good, and I like the idea of building a tank caster (in fact, I'm trying to figure out a high-survivability build of my own :P)

If you want to build evasion, a more realistic view would be to aim for 5/6k ES and 50%+ evasion, then spec into "Ondar's guile" for a 100% chance to evade projectile attacks. Note that this does NOT work with Iron Reflexes, and won't protect you from projectile-based spells such as fireballs, sparks, etc.

The reason i'm telling you this is that in higher level maps, most blue monsters can easily deal 2.5/3k damage, either with a physical attack (which could be avoided) or with a spell, which evasion doesn't protect you from. To make it clear, no matter what kind of build you are running, you need to have that "buffer" to keep you safe from *most* 1-hit kills.

My own witch (in standard league, though that doesn't make much difference in terms of access to gear since the prices raise like hell) runs with 7.2k ES and there are quite a lot of mobs/bosses that can shred me down if I'm not careful enough.

Just my 2 cents, hf with your character(s) ! :)

If you want to get VP, what do you think about something like this:

Is it worth it to pick up Influence without any other aura nodes? It seems like it should be included, but I don't know if you need really good ES gear to make it worth it (assuming you run discipline).

dont know why you take so many unnessecary points if you would have looked at my tree you would have seen that i do have influence and seecond i dont know why you skip all the damage at the left side of the tree

here is my tree for the people who wants to see it currently lvl 86 havent leveld that much

That isn't my build, it's just something I drew up quickly. What are the unnecessary points? Pressure Points? Fervor? I did look at your tree, but I must have have confused your inclusion of Influence with another tree, sorry. I'm always comparing builds.

In regards to skipping the left side of the starting witch area, it seems like the nodes leading up to Elemental Dominion are pretty decent, but they get a bit lackluster after that. Also, in your tree you have 14 points left and still no vaal pact. It's 7 points away if you take the mind over matter path and 11 if you have any intentions of getting unwavering stance. For people who want VP before level ~90, something in the tree clearly needs to change.

As for unwavering stance you can of course just use EOC, but this excludes you from some pretty boss amulets. I suppose it's definitely debatable on whether or not it is worth the points to give yourself access to those amulets. In your opinion it's a pretty big slam dunk for EOC?

why would i want unwavering? when i use eye of chayula have you even read the guide? its to many points and you take alternate path to waste more points for something you dont really need, if you want to get more crit multiplier there is more at the right side of the tree but you are gonna 1shot yourself to reflect untill you get 8k es.

if you wanna "draw" something quickly then you are clearly not ready for it because doing something quickly and not seeing the flaws you have in your point system, you are missing crit chance nodes that are essential for this build and you are COMPLETELY ignoring all the good nodes at the beginning of the witch tree, so i dont really see the comparison now, its like you just went full ES and then starting going to the duelist area for melee dmg.

i am very sorry if this sounds harsh but what you linked me really made me think like what the hell has this guy been smoking... because you are missing ES/damage nodes/getting frenzy charges for a cold crit that gets most of her damage from the wand and faster casting...

i would go something like this if i remember correctly you do benefit from projectile damage since the freezing pulse is projectile damage, but sure give it a try
