Guide: Fireball CI Curser - Proliferated Burning Critical Fire Damage | In-depth | SC |

Shavronne sucks for this build if you go for the low-life-get-rich flavour. Or maybe I do :D
I found that without Shavrone + Wondertrap + 2Advarius fun and awesomeness happened. With the aforementioned I went from almost 73 to exactly 72 in just a few pulls ...somehow I forgot death comes with xp penalties in SC lol.

I found the strength to resist spending 50 regrets to try something else build wise (the +defense from shield and the + energy shield from equiped shield nodes) as it would no longer represent this build. Without the Boots and the rings I think Shavronne might work but I found the chaos damage with this item to be quite a problem even with some resist from other pieces.

Speculation
I think the way this chest works is different than CI. When i had CI chaos mobs didn't hit for that much (and i also had decent resists by not using those 2 rings) and my ES did a good job keeping my alive long enough to bolt out of there or kill them:P
With the chest ... my ES got destroyed so fast I lost almost a full level worth of XP to death penalties. I think Shavrone's routes damage through ES but CI also nullifies it, so you do get hit by whatever other damage component the monsters have, but its far less that the full blow would be! Or maybe I had more ES without the required farming items so the damage felt lower ?
This is speculation, it felt like this but I haven't gather proof yet, so please consider this only as a thing to test out, NOT a fact, until its confirmed!
I need to do more testing ... maybe with the standard build and only Shavronne.

One thing i did find is you loose a lot of damage by swapping 2 gems out for IIQ and IIR, so if you try IIQ & IIR do NOT swap out Faster Casting and Elemental Proliferation! Oh and good luck and have fun finding/crafting a 6 link Shavrone with the right socket colors :D

Will update this thread with my findings.
I am with you on Shavronnes vandaall. While i really want it to test it out, i think it comes with too many downsides and will result in getting xp stuck and/or possibly even slower killing speeds because you have to play more defensively, and usually one well placed crit burns the entire pack.

I didn't want to discourage people from doing it so i didn't speak on it without having tested it. I feel a similar way about fire trap.

I also had a suspicion that IIR/IIQ from the gems did not work with burn, because it was its own effect, just like life leech doesnt. I created a thread about it and got the answer from another player that it didn't. Therefore i think IIQ/IIR as gems is not very well suited for fireball, and the damage will also allow you to get the most valuable thing in this game at a higher rate - XP.

Brb, i have to go for a bit.

EDIT: IIQ/IIR from gear should still apply overall though, its just that from the gem its applied to only the fireball.

Oh yea, and loving your testing :D

Ahh i found the real thread http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/229054

Bad news for the new burning damage gem, it is inferior. :D

I've been trying out PoE for a while now, trying different toons and builds, getting a feel for what felt good to me. Until recently I hadn't really found anything worthwhile, until I came across this thread by pure chance.

Just wanted to give you some props man, it's a clear, good read and the build seems like it's a lot of fun! I made a witch especially for this build, but alas, time restrictions only got her to level 16 so far... But still, I like fireball and I can't tell you how much it pleases me to see a thread like this about it, especially since it doesn't use LMP/GMP, two skills I seem to have an unexplained dislike of.

So yeah, gj and keep working on it man! I'll be sure to follow this thread!

Thanks man, i'm glad to hear you enjoy it :D

I really have a great dislike for LMP/GMP as well.. i guess i could play it but i rather want something controlled instead of auto faceroll, standard play. I made this build one day i was really tired of builds i thought they just sucked if you didn't go standardx, all i wanted was to farm fellshrine to begin with ;D.. Then i played a shadow i had daggers double curse and found temporal chains pretty good, but i wanted fireballer power so i tried it on that instead with the extra curse ring, and suddenly it could handle maps with ease. :D

EDIT: Actually, i refuse to LMP/GMP/Chain outside of the infamous Devil's Tongue Technique for fireball, that's pretty cool. ;P

If we look at what i understand to be the best fireball for this build, it will be supported by:

Elemental Proliferation, Concentrated Effect, Fire Penetration, Faster Casting and Increased Critical Damage.

Proliferation, Concentrated, Fire Penetration are baseline, and i have had to acknowledge that Faster Casting is better than Increased Critical Damage if you only have a 5 socket. That means you have to pick either Increased Burning Damage(IBD) or Increased Critical Damage(ICD).

Increased Burning Damage gem increases burning damage by 62%, at level 20, and has a 9% chance to ignite with 20% quality. However, since the build is based on critical damage, which always causes ignite, we can ignore the quality.

Comparing how much damage we gain from the two gems we find, given that we have an extra 60% burning damage and additional 160% critical strike damage from the build:

Gain in burning damage from IBD: (160% + 62%) / (160%) - 1 = 38.75%

Whereas through size of critical hit,

Gain in burning damage from ICD: (310% + 149%) / (310%) - 1 = 48.06%

Not only does Increased Critical Damage cause more burn damage, it also causes more instant damage from the hit which Increased Burning damage does not. It is much superior.

Just asking about your passive build that you have linked.
You get CI, obviously, but then you add on Eldritch Battery.
Once you add on CI, you health is at 1.
Why would you remove your entire energy shield as well?
What?
Do you end up using that other skill that does burn damage around you as well to be a true fire queen?
I am taking this build through Season 2 One week race (event 2) to see just how well it does along side the top tier builds. I will document my experience best I can and post here when the race is done :)
Sadly, I am unable o record or stream any video at this time!
wow, looking forward to see how it fares! Imagine if you found an early searing touch :D

When i leveled this one i found a searing touch on merveil, normal! Sadly i had already purchased one :/

Ahh, if only it was so well :)

I'm not picking eldritch battery here i need my energy shield coz you are right if i had both CI and EB i would be running around on 1 hp all the time. :D
