[1.0.1] HeavyUnit's 21k Single Target CI FP Crit Build!

Yeah he is just a bastard. Once you get better gear you can attempt to farm him, but once you reach that point you should be doing maps anyway. His bear trap + EK is just insane damage. Like I mentioned in the guide, he is tough in the Ghetto map as well, so be careful.
I created another character because they made a mistake with the previous passive.

now my opion has hacerca canviado but I have a doubt whether to use ice spear or arctic breath

I tested a bit arctic breath and I think is pretty good but I want a opion about which is better and why.
Oh finally I find a nice looking FP build. Ever since I stopped playing PoE, which was many many months ago and I decided to come back and play casually.

I was curious if your builds are current to date before I decide to reroll in Domination?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Heavy whats your opinion on added cold damage now that its been buffed?

or the new added lightning? the dps buff to added lightning gave me an increase of 500 sheet dps instantly on my ice spear single target, which i find quite nice :-)
for my FP, it doesn't help all that much. Would you say it's viable or even better than crit strikes or crit damage?

You didn't ask me in the first place but i'm running a similar build, so w/e.

Had this setup :

FP + GMP + Mana Leech + Faster Casting + Increased Crit. Damage + Life Leech.

14k single target DPS.

Took out mana leech for a level 12 added cold -> 20k dps. Kinda unrealistic 'cause I can't sustain 390 mana / second FP spam, but you get the idea. Not sure if dumping cold pen or increased crit damage would be a great idea, since :

1 - We need to run mana leech anyway (eventually gets us rid of clarity in favour of another aura - purity of ice anyone ?)
2 - While this is a constant 1.5 multiplier, cold pen scales from 1.3 at 0% resist to 2.4 at 75% cold resist.
3 - Enjoy colouring your chest with a 4th green slot if its not hybrid already.

Last "solution" be to drop mana leech and hope for the best with a couple of well-rolled mana flasks, while running clarity and a crapton of %mana regen rate on gear. Quite doubtful about this one too.

TL ; DR : it's too soon to give a solid answer.

Played FP moooonths ago, but at first glance there is no way to fit added cold damage instead of cold penetration.

Probably sounds ridiculous, but may be you can check with tabula raza and swapping faster casting with added cold damage? :P But I think DPS on tool tip will be similar and noone likes slow FP :P

Thoroughly enjoying this so far, will update you once I get into cruel and if I run into any snarl ups.

Berek's Grip.
FP + Added Chaos + Added Lightning + Increased Critical Damage + Greater Multiple Projectiles + Faster Casting. You can always replace Added Chaos with Added Cold for more leech/longer/more reliant freezing.
Even helps bypassing resistances.
Sorry everyone. I haven't been keeping up with this as much over the holidays because I've been busy with family and whatnot. This build is still current and my go to for high level maps. I recently rolled a life ST duelist and have been spending time on him to get him up to maps as well.

Heavy resistance mobs or maps with +cold res are troublesome for sure. I had a discussion in this thread with a few people some time back about the merits of certain gems, specifically mana leech, faster casting, and other options for damage gems. It is somewhat dependent on the map mods you run and what mobs you will be facing. Frost skeletons are super troublesome and any rare with double resist or the map mod +cold res as well. I did a bunch of math in the thread previously, so please feel free to go back and check my numbers, but I still believe mana and life leech to be mandatory unless you have insane mana regen and drop faster casting.

The key to this build is the ability to constantly spam FP for better crowd control and overall damage. If you miss any casts due to flask usage or mana issues (in no / half regen maps for example) then your effective DPS will not be the same as what would be expected or shown on your tooltip.

So, this being said, I may need to test with different gems a little and see how effective they are. The added chaos / lightning / cold is dependent on what spell nodes you take in the tree. I tested with them before I decided on increased crit damage and the sheet DPS was much better with crit damage. Now, it may be the case that your effective DPS is actually better with other damage gems. Shock stacks from lightning increased your overall DPS, chaos helps with nasty cold resist mobs with energy shield, and added cold enables bigger overall hits for longer freeze times.

In a party, the build's deficiencies are picked up by your party members and your crowd control is still super useful. I've been running lower maps, 70-74, solo a little lately since it's been slower with people gone for the holidays. Cold mobs are a real problem and it may be best to run oold pen over faster casting. I do hate slow cast speed, but cold pen works off the mobs max res, so regardless if it's a double res rare mob or a shitty +cold res mod on a map it won't matter. I still think crit damage is better overall, but I'd be open to hearing other people's experience.

I think the next step is to try and get a little more cast speed in the tree and test out cold pen. I'll update the thread as I test. Thanks for the interest in the build guys! Keep the questions coming.
