Lore: Map of Wraeclast, new act predictions. Final act = Almost certainly volcano/underground.

I pose a different theory.

Perhaps gems themselves aren't evil. Merely conduits.

Remember how shocked Grigor was when he found out the Gemling Queen was uncorrupted?

Why? It could be a simple difference: gems acting as a conduit to a dark power, say, located beneath Wraeclast, caused the corruption of the gemlings.

While perhaps, the Queen, who seems possessed of a vast mental library of arcane knowledge regarding Wraeclast (what a ... Twist), was wise enough to not succumb to the allure that murdered empires and the minds of those like Dominus?

Harmful entities masquerading as helpful, the seduction of power, the eventual corruption and fall.
"Witty remark."

here's another outlook on the 7 deadly sins:

from wikipedia
"
In the Book of Proverbs 6:16-19, among the verses traditionally associated with King Solomon, it states that the Lord specifically regards "six things the Lord hateth, and seven that are an abomination unto Him", namely:[4]
1.A proud look
2.A lying tongue
3.Hands that shed innocent blood
4.A heart that devises wicked plots
5.Feet that are swift to run into mischief
6.A deceitful witness that uttereth lies
7.Him that soweth discord among brethren

1. Duelist - too proud, killed for his honor
2. Scion - her high class life was a lie
3. Marauder - kills for fun
4. Witch - extreme vengeance, killed children
5. Ranger - a poacher/theif of animals
6. Shadow - exiled because they were worried he would talk
7. Templar - exiled from the templar brotherhood

it doesn't work out perfectly but it makes more sense than the traditional sins which don't really work well with the classes

to the point of the OP, I don't know why it has to be the last act, if there are 10 acts in total so i'm sure new lore will be introduced in acts 4-9 that could lead to a different "final" act. For all we know in acts 1-3 they will lead to a volcano/underground area in act 4 or 5
