Lore: Map of Wraeclast, new act predictions. Final act = Almost certainly volcano/underground.

These are may predicions for the total of 11 acts planned. Purely speculation, but one thing stands out here.

The major point of interest is the upper left Island which pretty obviously contains a volcano. I believe this final act is on the island itself, then climbing the volcano and decending into it and deep into the bowels of wraeclast.

"The earth of Wraeclast rejects the dead"
black spirit of storm which infests the ground and causes the dead to rise.

I believe the dark being mentioned in the lore, who Dominus believes to be God - lives deep underground in Wraeclast. Taken the amount of inspiration taken from Final fantasy, it is not a long shot to think the devs would take inspiration from the northern crater in final fantasy 7 as a great setting for the finale.

The communion. I believe the Vaal tried to commune with the dark being (Which Dominus believes to be God) And that this caused the first cataclysm.
Spoiler
This event may be the mysterious "communion" the Vaal were seeking before their demise according to Icius Perandus as is written in one of the Golden Pages: "A communion... but with what? By all accounts, it wasn't God that the Vaal were trying to reach."[17]. Said communion took place during the harvest moon, and Doryani was at the heart of this event[18]. Both Atziri and Doryani died in the cataclysm, as did many others. Some people also "changed" (possibly a reference to the Vaal Fallen found in the Pyramid?)[19]. On the Golden Page (Siosa's translation, not the flavour text) that mentions this, the words "sleep", "nightmare" and "the Beast" are also mentioned, and that the Vaal have "failed" themselves[20]. This may be a reference to the Vaal Oversoul, which is also called "nightmare" in game by some of the classes.
Siosa believes the end of Vaal civilization must have been very similar to the fall of Sarn[21].
Patching this information together, it may be that the Vaal were expecting to save their civilization at a so-called "communion", which was possibly related to Doryani's "cradle" of virtue gems

I believe the Doryanis cradle, is in fact the volcano. This may be where the communion took place also.
Spoiler
Siosa: "They carried their virtue gems to... "Doryani's bed"... no, that's not quite right. Ah yes, Doryani's cradle. The historian finishes that it was a price they needed to pay to ensure a Vaalish future."

Siosa: "I can make out the words "sleep", "nightmare", and... "the Beast", whatever that may be.

Again, it seems rather obvious - that the dark being is the beast, which sleeps beneath the earth of Wraeclast. Just a theory, but it could be that the monsters of Wraeclast - and its corruption - is a physcial manifistation of this dark being's dreams. Hence nightmare.

Edit:

To conclude:

1) I believe the last act will be the volcano and underground beneath wraeclast. Underground does not need to be less epic, skyrim proved that with Blackreach

Spoiler

2) I believe the volcano is Doriyanis cradle

3) I believe the dark being is sentinent (Opposed to a "force"), malevolent and powerful - and the final boss.

4) I cant remember where, but I remember a major lore character taking an expedition somewhere - never returning. I believe they intended to confront this creature but lost.

Either that or it's all hinting at "LOL! It was all a dream! LELZ!"

I think the last epic boss fight which concludes the game will end with a quote like this:

"Discharge to stronk, damn it!"
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.
"this world is just an illusion, exile." is enough to confirm that the "beast's" deams are the monsters and gems are apart of it's corrupt imagination. Thaumaturgy had to of originated somewhere, why not an evil being that thought it up?

One of the Weathered Carvings in Act I said something like:

Kaom led 500 of his best men underground to follow his visions in his dreams, but he was tricked by the darkness, and the darkness swallowed him.

I'll admit I haven't followed the lore perfectly, but how old is Merveil in comparison to these events? I always just assumed they went into her cave (following her visions) and died there.

I believe Merveil was pretty recent...but I can't be sure of that.

Thats he one I was looking for! :)

Im certain that the volcano island is the last act and that this is where Kaom decended down. It could also be Doriyans cradle.

I do not think Kaom is dead. Id bet a kidney that Kaom will be the penultimate boss of POE.
inb4 Next Act is the underground lvl.
Meh... noone cares about this stuff? :(
