Bump for great justice. my new witch is level 30 something and i need to do some math on crit chance. I'm locked at 5% from gear. level 30 in a 35 zone. I need to know how many passives i would need to spend into to get my crit above 5%.

Malice thank you for your work, the character sheet fucking blows however, doesn't take into account support gems.

Please post the actual formula, If information is power im a DW class weaponless. Please.

/edit Your formula is bogus...

With 8 power orbs: 24.3 % chance to crit. I have crit passives, and crit on my gear.... that means my natural chance to crit is .3% LOLOLOLOL

I can't improve the formula without information.

Post:

1) All the different bonuses to crit that you have
2) All the different bonuses to spell crit that you have
3) your character level
4) chance to crit without charges
5) chance to crit with charages
6) etc.

The more information the better.

If the formula is correct, you would need a crit rating of 481 at level 30 to get 24.3% chance to crit.

I have no +critical rating or +crit chance passives.

I am a level 32 character in a level 34 zone.

Each orb gives 3% chance to crit resulting in 24% added crit chance to my final crit chance.

Example if my gear + support gems give me 1% crit chance then I would have 25% chance to crit with 8 orbs up.

The purpose of argument should not be victory, but progress.

Post your wand too :)

But yeah, it seems like you should have far far more than 24.3% crit. Maybe the charscreen is messed up for power orbs? What does it say with no orbs (I'm guessing 5%). How many orbs does it take to get it over 5%, and then what # does it go to?

Still need your crit rating. It's in the character sheet.

For your shock nova though, unless the formula is wrong it should be roughly this:

28(gloves) + 52(body) + 58(gem) = 138 Critical strike rating for shock nova
138/(138+(32*50)) = 0.079402 = 7.9% chance to crit vs level 32 enemies.
+8 power charges = 31.9%

(2*32)/(32+34) = 0.969696 level scaling factor vs level 34 enemies
0.079402 * 0.969696 = 0.076996 = 7.6% chance to crit vs level 34 enemies.
+8 power charges = 31.6%

Everyone I talk to in game says wand crit affect your spellcrit rate. Is that not true?
The base crit rating of weapons affects hits with that weapon only. This is as true for wands as any other weapon type.
Critical Rating for spells: useful for casters
Critical Rating for All Damage: useful for physical and casters.

Why not physical crit rating?
Although if you have any +crit rating mods on the wand, they do take effect. Just not the rating of the wand itself.

With this necklace my crit chance goes from 7.1% to 9.5%. Dunno if that helps or not.

I'm happy to explain the exact calculations that are currently used, but it's on my list of stuff to investigate and potentially redo for 0.9.3's big balance changes, so don't read too deeply into it yet!

The crit formula is just the same as all the other ratings... chance = ( crit_rating / ( crit_rating + guideline ) ) * level_penalty

Where level_penalty = ( 2 * attacker_level ) / ( attacker_level + defender_level )

And guideline = attacker_level * 50

For spells, the spell critical rating is added to the normal critical rating (giving you a higher chance to crit).
