Self-Found (League) [Thread outdated!]

I recently began playing PoE, loving it so far. Honestly, I don't see a problem with trading items; I see no reason to play self found, although I understand the motives behind that playing style.
The problem to me with PoE trading is the lack of an Auction House. An AH would resolve many things that bother me: trading chat spam, the horribly inconveninent forum based item market and adding more flow to item prices. That last one is key: one factor to increase demand is that certain players - like me - will not put items to sell in the forums. Not only I find it hard to properly asses prices and value of items with the information at hand, I simply lack the time and will to do so; but I certainly would put surplus items in an in-game AH, because it's easier and much more convenient. AND that would diminish a bit the complaints of those who want to play self found because some of those simply find item prices in the forums too high and would buy them if affordable. |

I would love a self-found league with increased orb drop rates.

" The price of items has nothing to do with playing self found. The idea, as the name suggests, is to play with what you find yourself, not items you buy. So this would have NO effect on players who want/prefer a self found league. Also if you want to advocate an AH in the game, surely a thread about an AH would be the more appropriate place to post, instead of a thread consisting of players who want nothing to do with trading in any way, shape, form or price. Still bump in passing. Last edited by Jaknet#1426 on Sep 11, 2013, 6:10:58 AM

I'm pondering doing a self-found character on twitch and a web page... not like Anu's... really self-found.. fresh account, etc. That way I could document the progression day by day and solicit feedback on ways to get around the various problems I encounter. It'd be interesting to do it all out in the open for the world to see and to have "expert" feedback to deal with the L2PNoob crowd.
So if I were to setup a discussion board and a blog for this, anyone here expert enough to want to help with suggestions and thoughts as to character build & progression as it all unfolds? Send me a PM if you want to play along :) I've got the basic blog setup and disqus commenting enabled. Progress may be slow depending on work/life balance. also known as snapple99 ---> also known as snapple99 this is my testing account for self-found. Hi
1+SFL be it a permanent/semi-permanent(1-4 months) SFL:1)No trades with other players.2)Increased orb drops NOT items.3)No mf rolls on blue or yellow items.4)No party benefits,No loot allocation timer(what drops for you is yours alone). cheers Conan: Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women.
Never dance with the Devil because a dance with the Devil could last you forever... -I thought what I'd do was,I'd Pretend I was one of those deaf mutes- Nullus Anxietas:) |

" If that motivation is the elitist mentality I mentioned before, then no I didn't, still don't, and am proud to say so. If the motivation for requesting SFL is to simultaneously improve the quality of self found play and to improve the quality of the game, then the suggestion of a separate league misses the mark, in my opinion. I know you disagree and I'm perfectly cool with that. That said, I'm not going to just shut the hell up because you disagree no matter how many times people try to say I should. My motivation is to improve the way the game supports my preferred play style with as little impact on the play styles other people prefer as possible and to see the game broaden it's player base. Initially I only considered the first part of that and that's where I think the majority of SFL supporters are at now. Looking to make your game better by sacrificing someone else's isn't what I consider a worthwhile goal. Yes, it's debatable how much impact a separate league that satisfies the majority of supporters would impact existing trade enabled leagues. As I've said on more than one occasion, though, I think the risk is high enough to demand finding a solution to the underlying causes, barring one exception. I still maintain, and always will, that wanting SFL simply for the satisfaction of knowing you're not surrounded by people who trade is a harmful and elitist attitude that the game is better off without. Self found players can have a game that supports their play style without having to try and dictate anyone else's. While it's true that HC bears some similarity to the proposed SFL in it's modified rule set, there is a core distinction in it's overall philosophy. The premise of HC is that once your character dies you no longer have access to it in HC. The only premise of SFL that cannot be accomplished by fixing the issues in the regular leagues is elitism. As I firmly believe elitism should be dismissed as a consideration in design, I don't see the need for a separate league when everything but the elitism can be found in regular leagues with some tweaking. Lastly, as for your condescending question, yes. I know why people want SFL. Some of the reasons I think are valid and others not so much. Broadening my thinking and making an effort to consider the consequences that the suggestion I had been supporting would have for the game as a whole does not, in any way, represent me "forgetting" why people want it. |
