Props for this^.

I've uttered those words so many times.

You'll understand when I say, it's why we play progression games, we know the game is to progress, not stagnate and not instant grats.

But as astonishing as it might seem to those who realise this, the majority of gamers today and indeed developers go by [to quote Bashiok of Blizz] "obviously everyone wants the best gear possible, as soon as possible". Thus, the journey is merely an obstacle and the method irrelevant in anything else but its speed.

Shame.

You can be sure I was met with a pretty quick forum vacation in my response to Bashiok. ;)
Casually casual.

And yet in your own apocalyptic preditions you suggest that vast swathes of players will move to this new SFL. Ergo, one community becomes extremely strong and robust... the popular one. The less popular ones wither and die.

You see something wrong with this?
I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

Yes, I do; you're putting words in my mouth, and immediately after I made my position crystal clear.

Props for this^.
Slow, steady, constant progress isn't an ARPG like Diablo (2), it's an MMORPG (like WoW). The randomness of loot and a hefty dose of RNG, as opposed to the prescribed account-bound reward for competing Task #152, is what makes ARPGs ARPGs.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

And I love them for it.

Your point?

Well, I guess this was your point.

That depends on how you see 'slow, steady, constant progression.' Because you can have that with a shit ton of RNG.

I'd say the shopping game we have now isn't an aRPG like Diablo 2, I'd say the trade-access content isn't either. I'd say what we have is 'comp(l)eting Task #152' but without the even having to do the task, in most cases, the task gets you fkn nowhere.
Casually casual.

There are opportunities for drastic improvement in trading vs crafting balance, but SFL is not one of them;.

I would really like to know why the game is about to be released and they have not yet taken any of those opportunities for improvement?

Maybe they are happy or mostly happy with the trading vs. crafting in the current leagues. Which is why this thread exists. For people who don't think it would be a step to the side but huge step forward for them. Sort of like loot options was for most people.

I made slow, steady, constant progress in D2. Several times on several characters.

This game has it too, up to a point. Then you hit a wall. You either get lottery luck, or trade to progress. When I played in CB, trading was rare. Now it IS the endgame, and it's not the game I signed on for.

Just let me progress at my rate in my own no trading, no racing, no competition, no ladders, league. If the existence of such a league would be, as you feel Scrote, so debilitating to the main league, maybe it should be the main league.

In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.
