Our view on map drop rates
Hm...I have seen a whole of 4 chisels drop from 1-66 so far.

So I ran some more maps which makes for 12 since the change to the drop rate now.
L60 - Magic - Dunes - +36% - 0 new maps L60 - Magic - Dunes - +18%, area us 41% larger - 1 new map (L60) L60 - Rare - Grotto - +40% - 0 new maps L60 - Magic - Dunes - +42% - 0 new maps L60 - Rare (rolled before update) - +59% - 0 new maps L60 - Rare - Dried Lake - +65% - 1 new map (L60) L60 - Magic (rolled before update) - Dungeon - +12%, maze - 1 new map (L61) L60 - Rare - Dry Peninsula - +47% - 0 new maps L60 - Magic - Dry Peninsula - +9%, 39% larger - 0 new maps L60 - Magic - Dry Peninsula - +15%, 23% larger - 2 new maps (one L60 and one L61) L60 - Rare - Overgrown Ruin - +86% (!) - 0 new maps L60 - Rare - Dry Peninsula - +59% - 0 new maps 12 maps run, I got 5 back out of it. Despite sinking alchs into it and running boring or difficult combos like [Temporal Chains/-16% max Resistances/+27% monster life/+75% lightning res] or [patches of burning ground/50% slower recovery of life et al./+21% monster movement and IAS/+25% cast speed/two unique bosses]. So what gives. This is MORE maps dropping? In which universe? I had picked up MF gear before the patch (was happy to do so and do not mind it not being useful for maps now) and was averaging somewhere between 2.5 and 3.0 maps per map I ran. Was I hoarding all the maps (around 50) that dropped before the patch?! If I was getting that many maps before the patch, now there's allegedly more maps dropping and I am seeing so few maps drop myself despite running decent +% maps, by extension there can't have been many more maps before the patch than what I had in my stash... Perhaps I was unlucky. 12 maps is not a badly sized sample but it's not like I ran 100 maps to be sure. But even assuming I was severely unlucky, how long do you expect players to keep hoping for some better luck next time? I don't find re-grinding the same area very entertaining, which is exactly why I love the maps system - new area when I chose to, plus random mods! I seem to average a map every 2 or 2.5 Pyramid runs. 24 boring runs just to get started and I would have exhausted the usefulness of gear dropping from L60 maps plus gotten 3 new L60 maps and 2 L61 maps for my troubles. That's terrible grind for extremely low reward. Is that the intended ratio? Also, I have not seen even one Cartographer's Chisel drop from my map runs. If that's the supposed way to increase further map drops, where are they? |

Another problem with the maps right now is that pack size/map size/rare/magic/unique bosses are just completely overshadowed by the higher quantity mods. It feels like they have no point of being in the game anymore except to troll you. Yes, the formerly good mods were very good when iiq had an influence over the map drop rate, but now they're just USELESS mods.

Actually that's not all true. Maze is still one of the best mods for higher levels, since you chisel those maps. Further, magic/rare drop more loot in general.

You are correct if you want more mobs for experience and loot, but how are you going to get that experience? Oh right you need maps. To get those maps, you need quantity.

Making the big map boss drop a +/- 1 level map is a great idea.
hard-tie map drops to the quantity - 50% quantity - 50% chance map drops, 100% quantity - 100% chance map drops. Then even 20-25% quantity maps would be interesting to play. Implementing Mud Flats (first act quest) remaining enemies timer on the map is another awesome idea. Make the last mob drop if not the map then an orb of some sorts. Imho, at the end when u got the gear, XP doesnt give all that much, i would rather have increased crafting materials or orbs to play with . Need more rewards. Overall the game is awesome. |

My views of running maps (Level 73) as of last patch.
1)Chisels dont drop enough to allow you to use them one per map. More like 1 per 6 maps. 2)Broke from running maps even with pretty much taking any stats on the maps at all. (Orbs used doesnt = Orbs got off maps) 3)High IIQ maps take more or rarer orbs, yet to get those orbs you need higher IIQ, and normally takes 2 or 3 maps to get the orbs needed to make the map high IIQ. 4)Map drop rate is very random. Ive seen 2 maps off 1 mob drop, but then go on a 115% IIQ map and get no map at all. 5)Higher level maps doesnt really yield anything other than XP that will allow you to trade/buy orbs to do those higher harder maps. I love this system, I can see it working problem is map drop rate to get harder maps is very random. Ive seen some players able to get 64-66 maps progressively for hours (1 or 2 of them per map) while others get 0, or stuck doing level 60 maps. One thing I do say, is that if you are running out of level 60 maps, you are not using your orbs correctly. You are spending to much and not taking the higher IIQ. I saw someone post the level 60s they had and the avg IIQ was like 43%. 45% is about the normal I would run a blue map, and about 90% is normal for a rare map. If you are not doing that likely you are looking for the "Easy" map and you unlikely to get maps off those maps. When I died I had 18 extra maps left. (Died at level 73). My problem biggest problem was mainly running out of money to get HARDER maps, and a way to get higher level maps (Never ran a level 65+ map never dropped) |

" I completely disagree with this. I dont want this at all, if playing a 25% map means you are playing a very very very easy map, heck almost all bonus map sounds like. If you want to "bonus" of more mobs for loot and exp, then you are unlikely to get maps sounds fair to me. If you want maps you should be doing harder maps. Problem is even at high IIQ% AKA very hard maps, you unlikely to get a map thats an UPGRADE to the one you are on. Say you are doing a level 63 area, and you are doing a 100% IIQ map. Even with a 1% drop rate of a map (which is likely higher than I think it is) You only now have a 4% drop rate. Considering 90% of the mobs are white, 9% are blue and 1% is rare+ The best map you can get is 65 level at a 2% drop rate (meaning 1 in 50 rare mobs will drop a map vs 1 in 100) You might see say 10 rares per map, That means you are doing 5 maps to get a CHANCE at a level 65 drop. Now this rare mob that does drop the map then ends up, rolling to see what level it is, I believe the chance is equal to what level it rolls. So you have a 60-65 map choice which is 1 in 5. So at the end of the day on avg you will have to do 25 maps to get a +2 map upgrade. Now you factor in blues, and you have a much higher chance to get a +1 map upgrade. Say 50 blues per map on avg, 2% chance to drop at IIQ100, 1 per 1 maps, with a 60 to 64 choice or 1 in 4. That means you have to run 4 maps to get on avg 1 map of +1 level. Dont forget this is at the % map drop rate I think its at, plus a very high IIQ% (Likely rare maps) So what happens is that you end up going backwards, and staying at lower levels. What needs to be done is a way to allow higher level maps to drop at a higher rate with harder mobs on them. Meaning if you take a increase level map %+ mob, it would make the map say 5% more damage taken or something, for every 1%, so at 20% ILM% you would be at +100% damage taken. I really like this system, it's the reason I paid my way into the closed beta but comon, if you are going to drop IIQ from affecting drop rates you need to match the amount of IIQ people had to make sure they constantly had drops.
I didn't hear of many people over 75% IIQ having issues with maps. Personally I had some issues at 50% but I only had 2 dry spots in my run from 63-76. My point, if you want people to be able to keep doing maps you need to increase drop rates of them to at least 75% of what they were pre-patch. People still had to roll hard maps trying to get to +150% in hopes of getting high lvl maps. Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th
Finished 18th in Torment/Bloodline 1mo Race - peaked at 9th Null's Inclination Build 2.1.0 - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1559063 Summon Skeleton 1.3 - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1219856 |
