I have no idea how some of you guys are reporting so much damage output. I am using this build along with the recommended gear (Besides BoR. I will never ever have enough currency to buy that thing, never). My cyclone does 1245 dps and my does 3447 dps. That dps is running hatred. What am I missing? Please see the build at its current state and my items linked below. Thanks

" I thought you said in page 194 you "rarely" ran out of mana? MrH4t already told you that you need either a Blood Magic gem or a Soul Taker. Once you begin maping at lvl 69-72, and if you want to build a succesful character that's able to both deal damage and survive, then you must have capped resistances (chaos res at least non-negative), at least 5k+ hp, and you definitely shouldn't have to worry about running out of mana and auto attacking Residence Dom when he's about to die and therefore exposing yourself even further to desync/being one shotted/kamikaze bombers/you name it. Being able to kill quickly is another classic form of good defense. Simply put, it's about the expected damage: a constant 12k will trump everytime a 13k that you can only guarantee for 80% of the time while the other 20% you do 1k auto-attack damage (12k vs 10.6k; for this particular example. Try with 90% instead of 80% and constant damage remains the better option). The situation is akin to resolute technique, I don't know if you noticed, but when you went for that passive point your tooltip DPS went up, simply because your expected damage went up (for some specific builds with crit gear this could work in reverse, obviously). Furthermore, you can't prioritize mana leech on your gear when what you should really be prioritizing is capped resistances, flat hp and life leech for added survivability. Take your belt for instance, what you need instead of a wurm's is a 90+ life, 20%+ phys tri res rustic sash (26%+ ea.); think of it in terms of passives, to achieve that with passives you need: 2x 12% MPD nodes, 2x 12% elemental resistances nodes, 2-3x hp% increase nodes; so you're basically looking at an opportunity cost of 6-7 wasted passives just for the 2% mana leech and some other low roll mods, when you could instead get a blood magic gem and a proper belt. Regarding your skill point optimization conumdrum, IMHO you are right on some things and not so right on others. Know this however, I see X2p's build as merely a guide, but it's far from being optimized, there is a lot of room for damage optimization as well as hp maximization. MrH4t has been giving you good advice, personally I haven't taken any of the 6% elemental nodes because I believe those are better had from your gear, and the skill points should be only used for more beneficial things such as HP and DPS (HP being more important because DPS comes mainly from gear). As to the IASP% vs MPD% comparison, 1% increase in MPD does a lot more for DPS than a 1% increase in IASP (in my case and for my build anyway); I did this calculation long ago and I already forgot the exact equivalency but it was something like 1% MPD was equal, in terms of DPS gain, to 3% IASP. You can do this test yourself and obtain the equivalent ratio, simply by using Blood rage or gloves with IASP and a rustic sash, or applying and refunding passives, but that's more costly. Personally I don't even have berserking or its 2 preceding passives, that's 3 points I used for hp% nodes instead. I noticed you like theorycrafting and perfecting your tree, and it most certainly is a pretty fun thing to do, just as much as playing the game itself I daresay. However, theorycrafting can only get you so far, you will start to experience some of the things I said as the game forces you to make changes and see for yourself that some actions simply have to be taken over others (e.g. blood magic over mana leech, stacking HP for high end mapping and bosses, getting your resistances in your gear just so you can squeeze more passives from your gear, etc.). Also, always keep in mind that there is not one way to play this game, even though optimization leaves out choices due to them being inefficient, there still are other options that simply depend on preference, for instance the Unwavering Stance and no Stun (but no blind) vs 30% no stun yet has blind debate, the damage vs survivability trade-off, etc. It's up to you to see how you enjoy the game more. Final note: Don't worry so much about making your skill tree "perfect", at the end of the day this game is really about items, they are the ones that can make/brake or enable a build to function properly. I guarantee you can have the same fun with an unoptimized build and you wouldn't even notice the difference between 31k dps and 34k dps. Last edited by godslayer1234#7224 on Feb 7, 2014, 1:01:35 PM

" - You are using Life Leech gem, replace with melee phys dmg, leech from gloves and belt is more than enough, though u should look to replace those pieces in a few lvls too. - You are low-ish level, you will get more dps nodes when leveling further - Your weapons are shit. They are reccomended for leveling, but at your level you can at the very least double your dps just by switching out those for a couple of chaos Apart from this a lot of dps comes from high lvl high quality gems, damage mods on jewelry and ofc BoR. Fix the above first and you should be good ;) |

" Thank you for your good advice. I wasn't running out of mana until I got Bringer of Rain which at least doubled the mana cost of my dual strike. I'm now running Blood Magic instead of Fire Dmg and even though my dps went down, I now have the free mana to use Grace on top of Hatred. And I never run out of life. I'll try to getting a new belt. Now that I'm using blood magic I no longer need the mana leech and can just focus on life, resist, and dmg. Since you say IAS is so worthless, would you recommend replacing the 3x3% IAS nodes in the hunter tree with 20 dex and 8% life? Then gain access to 2 more 8% life nodes. Actually can I Just see what build you use so I can compare? Also I'm not really sure how 1% dmg is equal to 3% ias. You usually have more %dmg than %ias so ias should be worth more, and definitely not a third as much. Is it because of multistrike and faster attacks skewing things? Just picked up FInesse. 8% IAS gave me 4.17% more dps. So that means 1% ias worth 0.52% dps. 10% phys damage from a skill point gave me 1.94% dps. So 1%pdmg = 0.19% dps. This means 1% ias is worth 2.7% pdmg. Also how can I find a rustic sash? I searched poe.xyz for one like what you described and they're all 2-50 exalt I'm also having trouble upgrading because I rely on wurm's to have enough intelligence to use Enfeeble and Hatred. How do you get enough intelligence to use these auras? Our build only has 1 intelligence skill point deep in the Templar tree I probably won't reach until lvl 85-90 |

this build is good after the last patch? also how is the res? dont see to many res items on the build.. also can this still be good dps with new soul axe?

I got to ideas with this build:
1) Is it worth buying a Reduced Mana Gem (Lvl20/Quality20)? With this i could use Hatred+Grace and an extra 40% Mana-Aura. With a total of 97,6% Mana used. It's because i use DS with BM until i can go for a Soultaker-Axe. The only downside would be, that i would need another BM-Gem for Whirling Blades. So i think it would be totally worth it. I would go for Purity of Fire or Cold in this case. 2) Is Vaal Pact viable? Because atm i don't use my life flasks often. And i got a nice Carnage Heart with 9% lifeleech. I think with Vaal Pact the 20% of max life per second is gone. So i could get even more life leech and this instantly! The problem could be maps with Chaos Damage per second. I'm not sure if this debuff will be unplayble then. What do you think about it? |
|
" 1) Not worth. The bonus of quality on reduced mana doesn't aplly to auras. You can't run more than 2 60% auras with that build. 2)If you already have 9% life leech, you might be at the max. The 20% limit is not the limit on life leech you can stack, this is the limit of leech you can get per second, 20% of your maximum life. So with 9% and 10K (low dps for that build) you are the cap. Using Vaal pact could be usefull while dual striking, but if ou use cyclone and life gain on hit, it's already enough. |

" Okay i didn't know that the quality bonus isn't applying to auras and I almost bought one of these gems today. :P Currently i'm using Dual Strike and i'm at ~19k Dps with it (using BoR + Multistrike + Meleesplash + BloodMagic). Maybe it's worth a try if i find some spare skill points. Thanks for your reply. |
