(Aug 19 NZT) Hardcore No-Party Ladder Race

My proposed solution is to limit portal use in events to the player who spawned the portal. This would put groups and soloers on almost entirely even footing as far as game mechanics go, resulting in wins being decided by skill alone (which is the point of a competitive event, after all!).

But why does solo need to be on an even footing?

My POV is that these non-solo races are team races, if you want to compete at the top, form a team and practise. If you can't do that, don't play and/or don't complain about solo being worse off, it is worse off and it should be.

You might be an amazing solo player KoTao, but forming a group and communicating properly is part of the skillset of the race. If you can't do that then you shouldn't be able to compete on the same level with those who do have those skills.

If non party play is your preference (not a lack of the ability to form a team) then please stop trying to change the game so solo is even with party. Your 'proposed solution' is not necessary if solo and party aren't trying to be even, which they shouldn't be.
Actually, I was #3 marauder and I didn't use ground slam, I went dual wield cleave.

Next time, I'll go 2H cleave though because having to find 2 good weapons really sucks.

These "non-solo" races were the only races until this event, meaning they werent non-solo at all.

Also did you miss the other two paragraphs where i mentioned i think the communication, organization and coordination advantages a good group enjoys are perfectly fine as is, and that what im against is gaining a massive mechanics advantage via portal loopholes simply because you managed to click "accept invite"? Which has absolutely nothing to do with party synergy or skill at all, btw.

If GGGs plan is to have seperate solo/group events in the future then this isnt as large a concern (though such skillcap degrading cheese should probably still be fixed or removed eventually either way) but if not, then yes, id like to see soloers and groupers on roughly even footing as far as abusable game mechanics loopholes go. Ive never had an issue with groups winning due to party dynamics and my many previous posts on the subject should have made this clear.

They are absolutely non-solo races. The fact there hasn't been a solo only event before doesn't change this at all. If a party can be formed, it's a party race, not a solo race.

The races have always been separate solo/group races.

The fact you can compete solo in a group race is just the way the game has been designed. Just think about the technical issues which need to be overcome to force players into a party - there are many and it gets dirty pretty quick.

The whole idea of parties needing to be nerfed through some TP limiting mechanic is only warrantable when you are trying to get solo on an even footing with party play, which I've explained above isn't the goal of party races.
These are solo races, Prizes are awarded by ranking in CLASS.

The Class winners for this week all did so on their own merits and competed on a level playing field with every other player who played the same class.

That is a good thing!

TEAM leagues should have TEAM prizes based on TEAM performance.

Solo leagues should have Solo prizes based on individual performance and have rules like "no teams" as default

Yes it requires coding to add a "per team" league, but thats the whole point of BETA, to improve the game.

Team ONLY league races would improve the game in the same way this weeks SOLO ONLY League did.

The other thing to point out is this is in line with the future "Custom league" microtransactions.

Developing and testing different modes//game rule limitations like "team only" is in line with this long term goal.

Kudos to GGG for adding this... more please :)

I tried doing this race without any grinding and quickly (Ledge) fell 2 levels back from the leaders even though I was top 10 at about the halfway mark (still 2 levels behind but equal/ahead on quest progression).

Says something for grinding I guess.

Here's hoping for more CT.

And as always, the people advocating that there was nothing unfair about it are the people who were winning every time.

This guy drank some pretty good kool-aid and is a forum moderator to boot. Should we be afraid?

I love how he completely ignores Kotao's comment about how portal hopping is broken in races and takes 0 skill meaning Duolcs argument just flew out the window and yet he continues....

I would love to see proof of the 'elite communication' skillz these guys seem to have which gives them an unfair advantage....wololol

Firstly dude, your post is of zero value except stirring a pot. If you're not going to contribute anything except negativity, please refrain from posting.

Portal hopping is obviously completely broken, Kotao knows I agree with him on this and the alt+f4 problem. My whole point is that portal hopping is only an issue if solo is trying to compete with party in party races - which in my opinion is silly - like a 1 man team trying to win a relay.

The thing about the portal hopping problem is that no one has come up with a clean nice solution, they just complain that the problem exists and suggest pseudo solutions from the top of their head. No point in taking something broken and moving it into another broken state.
