[GUIDE] 1339 Fireball Shotgun/CI Sorc v1.0.0

v1.03 is complete.

bersi23, I do not wish to derail a thread meant for teaching others about this build with senseless arguing. Add me in game, my sorc's name is PowerCosmic. I will run a map with you and demonstrate everything I have described in this guide.
well to be honest bersi has a point. this build has something along the lines of void batery+xyz where xyz are "power charges":)

the perandus ring is nice but not realy worth it imo.... you need to have at least 2 or 3 uniques for the int bonus to be large enough, and the other pros you mention are .... scrolls ?

the exp gain is decent but again situational (useful only if you go behind the +80 levels)

This build uses 7 uniques.

I would recommend saving up for an eye first of all (it's probably the cheapest item on the list anyway). I wouldn't worry about using PC on crit for a gearless char - substitute in Faster Casting gem instead. This'll also be useful since you may have a rough time finding affordable wands with any cast speed on them. You may want to focus more so on energy shield and mana nodes as opposed to DPS nodes. I think it's a very good idea to just focus on pumping int at the very beginning so you can afford to run arctic armor. That's what I did when I first started leveling, and in normal mode especially hardly anything can do any damage to you. I also recommend using pernandus crest at lower levels. That shield is cheap as hell and godly for leveling up.
Hi there,

It's a nice build, I like it.

My question is why did u choose Fireball over Freezing Pulse?

It's true that they are both very attractive skills, but FP seems more efficient.
I can see you would use Fireball instead of FPulse since Fireball puts out about 25% more damage per second and you don't have to worry about not being absolutely on top of you enemy to get much damage. Plus with Fireball you could substitute the Faster Projectile with Concentrate Effect to have your damage skyrocket but with a smaller AOE and frankly needing a different armor to fit a blue instead of green.
On Anarchy/Onslaught, if we're talking about spending 20 more-or-less useless points to get unwavering stance, wouldn't it just be more productive to use a life/hybrid build?

My understanding is that the whole benefit of going CI is that you can get more survivability for less points, letting you focus instead on getting more damage. Once US becomes must-have, it seems like this advantage disappears.

There are several reasons. I will list them now.

1. Tribute to Fireball/es sorc from D2
2. Dragon-style fireballs look badass
3. Higher damage
4. Arctic armor + fire spells = tanked reflect damage
5. No need for crowd control when everything is dead
6. Fire witch is neglected popularity wise
7. Fireball shotgun crit... dat sound!

Conc. Effect vs Faster Projectiles

Concentrated effect empowers the fireballs much more so than Faster Projectiles can, true. However, we're looking at a 40-50% higher mana cost multiplier. This also prevents us from getting the 10% FCR bonus from q Faster Projectile gem. Faster Projectiles increases the range of fireball by a lot, but honestly that's not the reason I use it. To be honest, the standard projectile speed of fireball bugs me. A lot. I couldn't imagine not using faster projectiles as a support gem for this build (although it is possible).

With my current set up, I have infinitely sustainable fireball spam at 2.5 casts/sec. I wouldn't be able to sustain the increased mana cost that using Conc. effect would cause - and I have over 2.1k mana! With that being said, you are more than welcome to use that support gem if it fits your play style better.
