Very important. You can get 8% easily with a skill point, but no point can give you so much life like the Oak-request.
With the %-life nodes and blood magic it's just awesome. I just facerolled through act 1+2+3 on normal and tanked almost everything face2face. Even Piety with some res-gear couldn't stand very long.
And actually - I just faceroll act 1 merciless, but the +40hp are ~80hp for me, so 8,5% of my total life and that's not even half the life nodes I gonna take and I really need the HP for blood magic and tanky tanky stuff, kiting is boring.

Nothing compares to 40 base hp. It scales with +% nodes, it turns into a lot more than 40HP.

Is it wise to take iron reflex and leather and steel for merciless?

If I count correctly it has 3 suffix's already and can only get a prefix so high chance at 3rd dmg mod if i'm correct?

ilvl is 63

I use this build actually but being only lvl 30 - after losing 2 maras (lvl 37 / 40) i hope this char will bring it ^^

With a bit more movement and slower playstyle its a strong build (from my point of view). Im lacking resis a bit (being @ 55) but 1k hp and 250 dps are enough to survive in act 3 (250 dps compared to my 500 dps marauder is quite low, but works fine ;) )

How rich are you? How bad will you feel if the exalt produces something worthless? Only you can judge whether to exalt or not, but it's certainly a candidate.

I'm struggling between the all out dps, and the tankier-dps build. How big of difference is there between the two? Will I die frequently if I pick the dps-build?

Don't stress, everything is adaptable and it's not that hard to respec. If this is your first toon, why don't you start with the tankier build.

Yeah, first character and probably going to be my main :) I was under the impression that a full respecc was impossible?
