Petrov's Elemental Bow Ranger Build(s) (0.10)

You don't need a full respect to go from an all out dps to a tankier build (and remember there are infinite variations thereof). Orbs of regret can be used to respec a passive point. As you play and trade you will accumulate enough wealth to respec to your heart's content.

Sounds perfect :) I've always played the glass cannon build, but if it makes me die too much, I should probably go for the tankier build. eventhough my heart says all damage :p
Where exactly is the difference between the first (dps) and second (tankier) build,
is the dps more of a glasscannon or can it actually survive well enough? Which one would you recommend for a newbie to use? Are both viable for lategame or will I just die a lot on the dps build? My heart says dps and my soul wants to be tanky..
I dont dare mixing the builds on my own because I'm a complete newbie >.<
Very nice guide! It's really helpful already!

I have been using the original build as a guide, and will be switching to the more tanky version. Have a couple of questions.

1. I have a 5L bow, currently using LA, Weapon Elemental Damage, LMP, Chain, LOH as a combo. Was wondering if Chain + LMP was lowering damage or not? I seem to kill packs no problem, but want to know the optimal setup.

2. Have a Spell Totem, and currently have skellies in it. Is there a good gem combo for this class to make using a skelly spell totem?

3. Need to pick between one of the newer builds. Which one would be ideal for a softcare realm?

I think you could do a bit more homework to compare the builds to be quite frank. But if you want a quick fix answer - either will work, but it's probably safer to take the tankier build.

1. Personally, I don't think using both Chain and LMP is that important for LA for killing packs of mobs. LA already hits 3 additional targets and, also, if you use the Projectile Weakness curse, it pierces a lot - so you already annihilate big packs without having to use both LMP or Chain - either will suffice. And yes, they both reduce your damage per arrow - but surely you can see that from the gem description?

2. That's a good spell totem combo. How about Added Duration and Faster Casting?

3. you choose. try tankier for starts if you really dno't want to take a view.

Got a question for Petrov or whoever has an experienced answer. Is elemental proliferation a good support gem for LA once you pick up the chance to shock nodes? Is it possible that one volley can apply 3 shock charges to most of the mob since each shock proc will spread to others and stack? Seems viable in my head, but don't have the levels to test it out.
Hello Mr. Petrov,

I'm currently a lvl 51 ele ranger, focused on ice shot.

I'm aiming for this build:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgIBAdEILg6tFHUVIBmOKaUqTSzpMn41hjWSOrM_J0p9TshW-mOnZ6Bs9m6qc-F0QYLkg9uHdpARm42dqqJArpOv67nNxKLTft0N3Ubtg-4O9Pj3iPxL_E78xV-qiq_aYpSgaHTYTXq4tz7Grv4K8kXnY6ZXOuGI8TwtTP-vbMWK8B-iABRNBLMCcTKJV-J35crTGbRqk7ZBQzHfb-w4Q5wY23TxIWBAoAUtYEvEWCfVeu907Xfjrj5nmykufLg9_FhjUFCMz_ZIXz_G2LXyqW54DVivNug6Ut-_

How good is iceshot compared to LA or split arrow in terms of damage/viabiliy? I didn't quite get yet how much physical damage scales into ice shot.

I was thinking of iceshot + ice dmg + ele weapon dmg + faster attacks + chain, is this good to regenerate hp with blood magic?

Do you want to level up all of the skill gems to max, or am I screwing myself over by doing that?
Should I use life on hit or life leech?
