been wanting to try a ranger, i'm a 53 dual sb templar right now (first char) and its fun for a bit then gets boring so I wanted another character to use to give me some diversity. All builds are either short, outdated, or require you to get uniques out the ass to make it work so this one fits the bill and excited to start using it. So many posts and not quite sure if its in here somewhere but is resolute technique worth the no crits? I'm guessing it evens out with the 'miss sometimes then have a high crit/never crit and always hitting for steady dps' and the fact you won't need to worry about accuracy on any gear?

1. Higher dps due to never missing, while allowing you to focus on other stats rather than accuracy, crit chance and crit multiplier.

2. Much more reliable LGOH allows for higher survivability, especially while tanking damage. One shot that misses could result in you not getting back up to 1k life that you would've gotten otherwise.

3. Elemental reflect is very manageable with this build. With enough crit multiplier and elemental damage, elemental reflect can reach the point of being impossible.

Sorry if this has been asked, but is this a build you would recommend using in invasion? Died recently and looking for something new and fun to try. Thanks!

I think it would work really well for invasion, especially if you self cast enduring cry and immortal call instead of relying on CWDT. For invasion, I'd probably go with +1 endurance charge from bandits instead of the frenzy charge. Make very liberal use of Immortal Call against the physical damage. I've been playing a crit based bow ranger in invasion and am doing very well so far. Haven't died yet!

Hey, I'm sorry if you've answered this, but I was just wondering something. You say this is a good build for a new player. I'm not new, but I was thinking of running this in Ambush. But it seems like you rely on multiple 6L items and very strong gear otherwise, which most players don't have access to.

Does this build still work with cheaper gear?
Hi K0rrupted. I started playing PoE just before ambush launched, beat normal on a ranger, then started Ambush with a new scion and used Davos's build. It was fine - I did a few hillock runs at the start of cruel/merciless, but basically it was good and I relied on the gear I found/trading gear I found for some linked items I wanted. I'm level 69 right now and I can do maps my level with few issues.

I don't know exactly how well it compares to other builds, because I have not played them. But uh, it seems strong. And my buddy loves having me in a party for boosted auras. =)

Heh, well, if you're a completely new player (and thus don't have the advantages of metagaming or twinking), and this build works for you, then there must be something to it.

I'll run it as a Duelist then.

Looks like my damage and health went up a bit from this:

Indeed my friend. You have a lot more dps passives! That is a good looking build as long as you don't plan to use it in Invasion. But you dropped a lot of survivability passives to get that extra dps. Looks like you dropped about 11 life nodes (I deducted the two you picked up in Shadow tree) as well as Elemental Adaptation. You're definitely going to feel the sting of not having EA when you do elemental reflect maps. All in all, this build has always been meant to be a bit on the tanky side. It's not one of those crazy dps builds. It's purpose is to provide a means to run maps safely yet effectively. I originally made this build with the intention of not dying in mind, and posted it here as a hardcore friendly build, which I think it is.

I still think it's worth getting Berserking instead of three 8% WED nodes. If someone would like to test the difference in dps, that would be a great help. Berserking provides 4.5% attack speed per point since the nerf (18% IAS / 4 points). So it'll probably be a close thing.

Instead of Berserk, what about going up from the Ballistic Mastery area and getting Haste? It has 15% attack speed and some dex. Also, just above that are a +20 life node and two +12% life nodes. Also, two 8% projectile damage nodes will get you to 3 10% elemental damage nodes.
I started using Summon Raging Spirit in a 5L Searing Touch in my weapon slot. It is great for single target damage, especially if you have your auras on them. I used 5L ST that my Incinerate character uses, so it isn't perfect. However, if you can get one that is BBRRR, you can Spirit,Minion Damage,Blood Magic,Increased Duration, and Multistrike. If you have a 6L add Melee Damage.

It has really turned around my clear speed to be able to whip that out on tough mobs.
This is pretty much how I went while leveling. I'm playing in Ambush so I went a little more damage early game than life.

I'm currently at this point and died like 3 or 4 times so far. I started using 5L at 50lvl and it made the build just faceroll through the mobs. Only problem is single target dps, but that will be fixed once I get 5L for it too.

With the new tree, has anyone considered just hitting all of the aura nodes and using Alpha's Howl? You get something like this:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgAA8pc7KJtdA5aomm49WlJgQ0rIgwk_J0ZxKk20DOGIFSCTJ-q6Haos6YPbHNw8jt0N_Et_xlfJW6_8xc5xJ6kRlij6TipW-megbBZabXC76-4ppe4Oh3YkPNkTuJPveiP2Sn2nXC9vpwgMfdN-7_BJUY9GEH99dVpIHRTQ0Mae_rr60puhz2W742aeFy826We9VcbEosAaZOeG0SSq42rub5cGkFVZ81XWJLAZhS2Dp4SsqoCkGmwZiho4cqnz3fsJ7Dh82fbaV-Iaj3flMokEsxRN8B-iAA==

You lose some life, projectile damage, wed, and aspd, but gain +21% buff effectiveness, 34% aura effectiveness, and enough reduced mana to run two of the 40% auras (or you can drop a couple of nodes and take haste). Seems interesting. (Elemental-buzzsaw inspired).

If this isn't worth it, what about just picking up inner force?

I'm planning on playing in a group, so for me the extra aura effectiveness is absolutely worth it. Davos mentioned in the OP that his dps goes from 1600 to 4600 with auras on. His build has +36% aura effectiveness and +3% buff effectiveness, whereas the aura-based build has +70% aura effectiveness and +24% buff effectiveness. That means instead of a 3k DPS increase, the DPS increase would be 3000 * (1.94/1.39) = 4187. Of course that assumes that all else is the same, and we know that the aura build has lower attack speed and +damage so the comparison really isn't apples to apples.

However, running these extra aura nodes lets you run a crazy powerful haste aura. At level 20 (let's assume grace stays in Alpha's Howl), haste gives 16% attack speed and 9% run speed. That ends up being 31% attack speed and 17% run speed after aura/buff effectiveness, so in the end we actually end up ~18% more attack speed (and the extra run speed is gravy). We're still missing a heft chunk of +damage as compared to the original build, though, so it's likely that the original build will still do more (if not comparable) damage until you have a large amount of +damage on your gear.

Is anyone else having trouble with getting enough Dex with this build? I'm level 56 with only 123 Dex and can't use decent bows or level up my green gems. At the final build I'll only have 183 Dex, and the bow shown in the gear section requires 212. Having to dedicate gear to make up for the extra 40 missing Dex points seems problematic while keeping all the resists, life, and defenses up as well.
