Just looking at it, Cyclone seems like it could have phenomenal potential with this build, at least as a replacement for lightning strike. With Mind Drinker/Warlord's mark it ~might~ be 100% sustainable in terms of mana cost, and could provide the same level of safety that whirling blades gives in terms of mobility. Could take a standard 5 link, and (I'm assuming cyclone will be a red gem), run Cyclone/Melee Damage/Melee Damage on Full life/Faster attacks(?)/Crit chance/Crit damage - subbing out faster attacks or one of the crits for life leech or mana leech accordingly.
I'm interested in Cyclone but given the current state of server-client synchronization, I want to test any sort of constant-movement attack skill personally before I get too excited.

Also, any thoughts on what would be best to focus on for my next big gear upgrade? See page 145 for details.
I have nice amulet for this build :

Your belt is the most glaring piece. You can easily find something with 25%+ weapon elemental damage, and then try and find a trade off where you lose the +life and add in +energy shield. An implicit %physical damage modifier would be preferable, you could look for an explicit strength mod to compensate.

You could stand to have a 5 linked chest, which will bring your lightning strike DPS up dramatically. Your rings are decent, but you should try to capitalize on the fact that offensive mods come almost explicitly from your weapon and jewelry. Take the amulet out of the equation since Chayula is almost mandatory, and that leaves you with three pieces of gear to supply damage. Try to add lightning damage/physical damage/attack speed/%life leech/%weapon elemental damage.

You have, if I remember correctly, +0 to accuracy rating. You want more - a lot more. I'm currently sitting at 81% chance to hit (you can see my gear at the bottom of page 145), and it's good on so many levels. When your survivability comes from leeching damage, you really don't want to be missing attacks.

Your shield has low energy shield, as far as CI shadows go. Since you don't need the offensive prefixes that casters do (%spell damage, %crit chance), the price of a shield with our desired stats (high ES/mana/resists) is dramatically cheaper than a top tier caster variant. In addition to all of that, your evasion rating from gear is almost nonexistent. Try to buy some hybrid pieces, or invest in Sin Treks to replace your Goldwyrms.

A number of key pieces that you're wearing are also lacking in +Mana and +Intelligence, which should be affecting your mana pool right now in a noticeable way.

Lastly, your dagger. It's just flat out not good. A better dagger would be your biggest boon right now - it's going to increase your killing speed and increase your life leech, which are both incredibly important if you want to be able to function in maps.

Hey guys, just got into Cruel with my shadow and I'm getting smacked around pretty good. I'm sure it has to do with my gear, can you tell me where I'm going wrong? Or maybe I just have to get used to being smacked around until much later levels?

The thing I notice most is Lightning Strike just destroys my mana supply. I added Mana Leech to try and help that but it doesn't seem to be much good yet lol.

Wow, thanks! :D That kind of detailed reply obligates a similar answer, so I'll share my thoughts. I didn't really expect an answer that detailed!

So to sum it up, 'Your belt sucks and most of your other gear could be better, but a new dagger is probably what you should spend all your GCP/Exalted on.' I was beginning to suspect this as well - perhaps I'll get a relatively inexpensive new shield to fix my cold res, then start saving resources for a much, much better dagger.

Yeah, the belt is mainly for the strength and resistances. Now that I know about the "Poe Goods" search engine I'll look for a better one - but in actual damage testing, a decent heavy belt's implicit +str provides more dps than the 5% physical damage implicit on a Rustic Sash, given that my total strength remains the same, and of course it saves a suffix for either a second resist or weapon elemental damage - both of which I'd like on my belt. (From my research, a +str belt could only have one res along with weapon elemental damage, as all are suffixes.)

I agree about my +accuracy (I have +100, but that's frankly not enough - I wouldn't mind having ~+500 between two pieces) and that's something I plan to get on my next ring and circlet.

Again, I agree about my shield. I'm kinda nonplussed by evasion as a defensive mechanism; binary things like that, without a huge life/es/whatever pool to work with just don't impress me much, though I guess the cumulative effect over time could be significant. I've kind of been putting off a boot upgrade because of this; I got those Goldwyrms pretty cheap, +quantity is amazing, and for the price of a decent pair of Sin Treks I think I could make much more significant improvements to my rings and belt. I'll keep my eyes open for improvements in my evasion, though.

I end up with ~+150 mana and +35 intelligence; I have 689 mana at the moment, and unless I actually start using non-Reduced Mana Grace that ends up as more than enough (over 250 remaining after reserve).

Finally, yes, my dagger. I've avoided upgrading it because upgrades I see for sale that interest me end up being very, very expensive; more expensive than all of the rest of my gear combined. I'm going to stop spending so much on my alternate characters and let those Chaoses and GCPs build up for a while, and keep my eyes open for a good deal in the meantime.

Again, thanks for your considerate reply! I hope I've done it justice in this.
