Need a little help on dps. I am working on putting my flicker with melee, melee full life and crit on my boots. What else should my next focus be on? I was thinking of gcp on my double strike gem. Any other glaring misses? Should I just save up for a 5l 600es plus chest? I mainly use double strike on this build and use my granite and mana as armor and resist buffs. no issues on maps yet other than freeze. Lastly I pack the eye in the inventory just in case ;)
my double strike is in the mid 6k and flicker mid 3k

If you want quality on a gem, the order of preference should be as follows:

Lightning Strike > Flicker Strike > Warlord's Mark > anything else

This is just based on overall buffs. LS gains 3% pierce per quality, Flicker gains 4% crit chance per quality, and Warlord's Mark gains I believe 1.5% increased chance to gain an endurance charge per quality. Literally every other gem you have is going to yield a 0.5%-2% increase in damage. 2% crit dmg/quality on that gem, 1% crit on crit chance, and then 0.5% attack speed or damage on other gems. Pumping 6 GCP's in your double strike will yield an equivalent amount of DPS as pumping 6 GCP's into Faster Attacks, Melee Phys dmg, and melee phys dmg on full life. With 6 GCP's, you can purchase mid tier qualities on all three of those gems which will provide gains up to 6x the amount you make capping out your double strike quality.

Save your money for a 5 link, then purchase the highest quality lightning strike you can. Your next buy should be to get a quality Flicker Strike and four link it.

Thank you so much! Would have never thought of warlords mark quality. My flicker is at 19% so i will use my gcps for a quality lightning and chest. :) Gl guys if you see my old posts I was very frustrated getting to CI but it is a lot of fun once you get the gear.

Hey guys, just got into Cruel with my shadow and I'm getting smacked around pretty good. I'm sure it has to do with my gear, can you tell me where I'm going wrong? Or maybe I just have to get used to being smacked around until much later levels?

The thing I notice most is Lightning Strike just destroys my mana supply. I added Mana Leech to try and help that but it doesn't seem to be much good yet lol.

Much like my own problem, I think a lot of your problems center around your weapon. It is bad, and not only bad, the mods on it are bad for this particular build.

You have Mind Drinker, Warlord's Mark, and 1% mana leech on your gear, but your weapon has no physical damage! Without at least decent base physical damage (with elemental damage being 'in addition to' not 'instead of'), you don't do enough physical damage to leech with in respect to mana, even if +8 life per hit is enough to keep you alive.

I see you're using Clarity. Clarity is nice, I'll give it that, but in my personal experience, with a mana pool already reduced by Discipline, Wrath, and Hatred, Clarity just gets in the way by reserving too much mana in comparison to how much regen it offers. Sure, with a lot of Mana Regeneration rate % it can be awesome, but Shadows just don't have any of those nodes and getting enough on gear is a hassle. With all of that mana reserved, once you hit a mana flask, your mana often maxes out before you've had time to take advantage of any more than 100-200 of the mana it was going to recover for you.

Last thing (I have to run): try to get a little more +life! It should make things a lot easier having ~+50 on just one or two more pieces of gear. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the reply!
Sorry if this question has been answered in the last 148 pages (havent seen anything :p) but what are the benefits of having sin trek boots rather than a pair of decent ES, 30% movement, and good resistance? thanks in advance!

the only benefit is in PvP :) But ya if you can find a hybrid ev/es ms boots with higher ev and higher es than sin trek, feel free to use it instead!

Thanks for the fast reply invalesco! I had a pair with ok resists, 30%ms, and about 115 es... Probably shouldn't have sold it lol

Is this worth crafting with a regal? Thanks!

If you can't control it, STOP.

Shouldn't you augment it first?
bye bye PoE
I recently hit 64 and specced into CI. I was afraid it'd feel underpowered, but Blood Rage is so good (at least while soloing) that I feel like the slog through the lower levels is finally starting to pay off.

However, I have some concerns.

1) Flicker Strike almost seems like a gimmick. It's fun to spam it with full Frenzy charges, but what's the practical use? I find myself using Whirling Blades more for positioning and escaping danger.

2) Blood Rage and group play. Blood Rage only procs if you get the killing blow on a mob. This means, in group play, you are competing with 5 other people to get the killing blow, which makes you end up micromanaging BR so that it doesn't fall off and require a re-cast. I think Blood Rage should be changed to count assists on killing a target for the purpose of refreshing the buff, but meanwhile we're stuck with this.

So is anyone using this build in maps with a group? Do you micro your Blood Rage buff? Any tips on keeping it active? Unfortunately, the Increased Duration support gem is currently broken with BR (refreshing the buff resets it to default duration).
The practical use of Flicker Strike is to clean up. It allows you to keep moving, while killing mobs and maintaining your frenzy charges. If you find a large pack and you lightning strike down, say, 12 mobs to 4 mobs, the idea is that you cast flicker strike four times and instantly drop all four of them. With good gear, flicker strike is going to do more damage than double strike anyway, so it's a more efficient killing ability than Double Strike.

^This.
Don't forget that, aside from the windup, Flicker is an instant teleport. Whirling Blades has a disadvantage with being a straight up movement skill and suffering from travel time. Flicker is more adequately used to dodge projectiles in a small area.

Also for farming normal areas (docks, fellshrine), it never gets old to flicker down a whole pack of mobs. It literally doesn't get old. I've been doing it for weeks and I still giggle every time.

I'm actually really curious about this. How often do the people in this thread actually use Warlord's Mark? Before Merciless I found it obscenely useful to sustain through damage, the Endurance Charges were pretty useful too.

However, after Merciless and Maps, I found it to be almost useless compared to Temporal Chains. I'm not sure if I'm just missing something or it's a general preference choice but the obscene preference towards Warlord's Mark in these threads makes me learn towards the former.

On another note, it's funny to see Invalesco cycle through his toons every once in a while.
If you're reading this, I'm probably on another year-long ban.
Thanks GGG.
