POSSIBLE BSOD Portcls fix for Creative X-fi's--NEEDS TESTING.

I'm just going to leave this here in case anyone finds it interesting:

A game which makes use of Open AL does not require additional function calls. By default the X-RAM extension is set to automatic, all Open AL buffers will be loaded into X-RAM as long as there is storage space left. This means that if a game is using Open AL it makes use of X-RAM as soon as it has been detected on your sound card. The X-RAM extensions can also be set to manual (hardware or accessible). In this mode it is up to the game developer to decide what sounds will be uploaded to the X-RAM.

Nice! So it should be something GGG can just disable (hopefully)

Beta win7 drivers for titanium hd currently prevent BSOD, but now its a client crash. It'll live with this for now.

4 Bsods yesterday, and 1 so far today. Pretty frustrating :( hope they can come up with a solution for it asap.
I have a creative x-fi titanium card and was experiencing bluescreens all the time while playing PoE, about once an hour without fail.

I updated to the latest beta driver for it (as suggested above) and I have yet to see another bluescreen. That said I have only played a few hours straight on PoE. Though based on my past experience I should have bluescreened a few times.

I havn't had any client crashes since updating, could it be something else that is causing those crashes now perhaps?

I will update if I experience any further issues.

Go to Driver folder.
Then look for the PCI&VEN_1102&DEV_XXXX folder that should be there. Then click on the folder.

Add a new STRING and name it DisableXRAM, and set it to a string value of 1.
If you have more than one PCI&VEN in there, do it for the other folder.

Then restart the computer and test for any BSOD's while running the game or alt tabbing with the game running.

Please report back to see if this improves, fixes, or doesn't fix the issue.

I am a noob with the registry. I cant find any driver folder. How is this folder named exactly? I do have an Extrememusic card, no Titanium.

I have gone through all folders and found many, many PCI&VEN_1102&DEV_XXXX folders. In the HardwareID folder I found only one such folder. Is this my driver folder?

I'm running the exact same drivers as yourself on my X-Fi - XtremeGamer and my game will not actually start as long as I have my audio device set to my speakers rather than headset.

Any ideas? :(

I unfortunately don't have any ideas as this issue seems to be far too random for it to have one fix to it.

For those using Xtremegamer cards:
I thought those do NOT have xram on them? That might explain why you may be having issues, though I'm surprised the BSOD would happen on a non-xram card.

Yes, you are right, they don't have X-RAM on them but the registry variable is still there and it is most likely just an oversight or something along those lines. This since the drivers are not only for the lower profile cards but for some Titanium and Fatality pro series cards.

Besides, we that have the Xtremegamer card or something like that also got BSOD's so the issue should be something else entirely. But then again, this fix you've posted seem to be working for a couple of people, fixing the BSOD for some while others still get BSOD's.

Now, I don't get any BSOD's as reported but as others have reported as well in this thread is that I get random CTD's every once in a while. But I'd take that over BSOD's any day.

One more thing, I've been having this idea. Could it be possible, (since all cards do not have X-RAM in common) that it is has something to do with the X-Fi CMSS-3D functionality?
Do note that I'm just a layman speculating and have no expertise in this subject but I feel it's worth exploring. Wiki link

bear in mind the titanium hd and titanium and different models and the drivers are different as well. The BSOD is elimated with the newer drivers (im a HD user), however these drivers produce a crackle over flash playback and does crash the client in poe situations which would have caused a BSOD with the non beta drivers (vaal ruins, church dungeon, etc).

Thanks for this, I've been getting BSOD crashes especially on loading new zones. I'll give it a shot and report back!

Ah my apologies I missed the HD part.

The beta driver has still been working well for me in PoE and it also helped fix a bluescreen I was getting when using the Creative ASIO driver in another application, though its still not functioning 100% properly there either lol.
