Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
1.Game is currently in beta. Any accumulated wealth will disappear in a little over a month.
2.My concern is with new players and the overall health of a game that I am beta testing. 3.This debate is useful because Davidkain just provided a unique idea that would improve the game. One of the biggest issues with the current system is that it DOES cater to people who don’t want to share. I ‘like’ the rest of game why should I not ‘like’ the co-op experience? " 1. So why is everyone afraid of missing loot and not playing public games then? I suspect there is more to it than just fear of losing an item or two. 2. I agree, a tutorial should mention something about looting - and in some ways public games are NOT the best place for a new player to learn the game. There will be griefers and nasty "immature" year olds trying to dominate looting and new players will be subjected to them without warning. 3. This suggestion has been brought up many times. It was referred to as "candy land league" and personally, I do not care one way or the other, but say goodbye to a huge chunk of the player base that would never try the full game. I like the rest of the game too, and would argue that without ffa loot the entire game would be slower pace - less exciting and ultimately most people would have no reason to make friends/guilds/traveling buddies and have less respect for their fellow gamer or their own reputations. |

" Of course they do, but lots of people DON'T play public which is a big part of showing off your cosmetics. Ya I can buy stuff to show off to the people on my friends list but It would beven cooler if I hoped in and out of public games. Thats my point. Its irrefutable because I am talking about myself. I suspect that's how a lot of people will feel. " Way to rehash the same argument again SMRD cudos. I happen to be poor enough that losing out on a good orb is irritating, but beyond that I don't enjoy PVP when I am trying to play pure PVE. That is my opinion and it appears to be the opinion of a lot of players. Ya really, not everyone can play this game so much that all orbs aren't that big of a deal anymore. I don't know if I will ever have 50 gcp in my stash. Maybe someday. " I'm not arguing that they don't " Then don't participate? " Of course it is. I hope GGG doesn't keep putting in features that people don't like. I kind of hope the game gets really popular. My biggest gripe with not liking FFA is that I don't see the payoff to the game for having it like this. Doesn't seem worth it at all. " Again, this isn't the point at all. People like myself who don't like FFA are generally very generous. I gave away some stuff today to a guy I met in general chat. You don't understand my perspective and I don't fully understand yours, oh well thats life. Don't try to put us down just because you don't get it. I share fine, I don't want to compete. " Thats your opinion that can't really be proven without a test. But if absolutely everyone stays out of FFA at that point and there are more public games then its totally worth it from my perspective. Cutthroat leagues with FFA would still exist. Standard Forever

" Then the design of the loot system is shit. If I'm not supposed to like it, I will naturally avoid it - and that's what I'm doing. And please don't say "some people can't handle it", it is the majority. I'm very open to a poll on the PoE page to clarify this once and for all. " Sorry if I'm not 15 anymore and have countless hours for gaming. If I play a game I want to make progress and have fun, not getting frustrated because someone ninjas the loot and makes me keep looking for different groups. Sorry if I sound rude, but I'm as annoyed as you are, everything has been said over and over again. |

" If a huge chunk of the player base would want to play that league then they should have the option to do so. The idea that they wouldn't be playing the full game is really dumb. The game already has a bunch of players who aren't playing this so called "full game". " All of that is personal opinion. Not to mention how many players enjoy playing slower paced. Since when does everyone have to play super fast? I don't like FFA and I still want to make friends, join guilds, have traveling buddies. Standard Forever

" I streamlined this quote so it makes a bit more sense to people only reading the newest replies. Anyway, I don't know what the previous suggestion entailed, but even if it did affect more than the looting rules, does it matter? The hardcore league is exactly the same except death is permanent in a sense, what's wrong with going in the opposite direction? Regarding population, you can again look to the population of the hardcore league vs. the default one. I don't have those numbers obviously, but hardcore doesn't seem to exactly be lacking in players. In fact, if the majority of the playerbase did play on this league, it would probably be almost entirely be populated not by those who currently enjoy the game, but by those wouldn't have enjoyed playing it otherwise. In fact, the concept of different "leagues" within the same game is fairly revolutionary. How many people would have stuck with Diablo 3 if there was a 'Increased Drop Rate with Restricted/Disabled Trading League'? Or even a multiplayer only league with nerfed monster damage/health/loot but with open hostility and full loot on death? Obviously not entirely born by Grinding Gear, since D2's hardcore ladders and such were entirely separated, and I'm sure there are other examples in games before that, but it's never been quite as integral as it is in this game. Regardless, I'm not advocating a difficulty decrease or anything, I don't think it's either desired or needed. I just want to be able to enjoy a multiplayer experience where loot is a secondary focus, (sometimes I do this anyway, since I can usually go a while on only blue loot and wisdom scrolls) whether that's through a league or not. The only reason I would be against varied loot rules is because of one time where I solo killed a few enemies away from the group and a Gemcutter's Prism dropped for someone else. He came running over when I told him it dropped for him though, and I suppose it would have been his loss and not mine, haha. Damn, I must feel pretty strongly about this topic since I almost never type this much. |

The biggest problem i see in this thread is: the guys who love and advocate the FFA loot system are looking like elitist jerks. Please don´t take it personal.
If you like it, simple point why do you like, don´t try sound like a elitist saying crap like: "you can´t afford lose one item? NOOB! Burn in the noobland". It make you look like a 12 year spoiled kid. You guys have your opinion in the loot system, and i respect it. But i don´t agree with it. But, because i dont agree with you im not allowed to say you are noobs without time to play the game for an entire day or multi-box all day long and stuff . . . We are lacking respect in here. Let´s keep an polite atitude towards each other. |

yep, that's why in this thread I was being ironical when i addressed to these "hardcore-pro-elitist" players. the quotation marks are exactly for that.
because the devs stated this game is also intended to the "above the average" arpg player these "hardcore-pro-elitist" assume this game is for them only. if you look in this thread you'll see another recurring argument from their part: we are elite and we say it's better so don't comment because you're noob and you don't know the game like we elites do. laughable. if only the average player would knew how it's to be on top and how they act as a closed-elitist-group, rigging forum auctions when a new fish bites, stuff like that. Basically yhey help eachother on the expense of the noob. the current loot system favors them, their playstyle, getting sooner to the top, getting richer sooner etc. that's why they act like a monopoly and that's why you see them being unreasonable, dumbfounded. They are 100% subjective on this matter and would do everything to defend their monopoly. |

" This discussion has been going on for YEARS. People are jumping in not knowing any of the past and everything needs to be explained fresh over and over again. This topic is NOT that simple, and frankly NOBODY wants to argue for FFA because it really favors nobody - my only argument is that it is a necessary game mechanic NOT a convenience issue and that GGG made a wise decision going with it. My opinion is formed from playing months of solo, public games and finally private group games with a large friends list. Sharing loot is an essential part of “being” in the game with someone, it creates trust relationships with other players and results in a deeper experience then having half the game “personalized” like in MMO’s or other games where it does not matter at all who you are with. I see over and over again people coming to PoE from diablo 3 and find so much better of a game – but they say “except for the loot system”. Not realized it’s this very system that is at the core of so many decisions that are responsible for the “better” game. It’s a losing battle, more and more will arrive not understanding any of this, and I’m sick to death of the topic. So go ahead ruin this game if you can, I am not getting upset over this crap anymore. |
