Game has dropped in popularity to closed beta level

www.pathofexile.com =/= the game
I wonder sometimes what the effect of this whole open beta thing will be. What’s the risk of having a bunch of people play out the game and be done with it before it even launches? I have to assume that most people will play this game for a finite period of time. If that number is, say 100 hours, Is there a risk of the majority of players putting in their 100 hours during open beta and not being here when the game actually releases? It seems like it would be a bad thing if the peak point of playing population happened before the game was even out.

Ah I wouldnt be worried about that too much. announcing a release date alone and pooping out abunch of dev posts will draw much traffic. They have some tricks in the bag to spawn interest in the web site. Besides, it is natural that as players have played for awhile, they do not need to go to the website as much for build ideas or mechanics threads, which is probably the meat of the site traffic.
Hey...is this thing on?
Back to closed beta levels?

This to me is good news. The more algo-QQwhinebots leave the better.

Great for the overall health of the game.

Natural attrition rate, and for you, Kingsroad is waiting especially for you. Be part of it! You know you want to happily and gratefully join it. Bye!

And, can I have your stuff?
POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!

the meat of the website is the trade forum - which people absolutely do use on a daily basis.

this is not hard to figure out or to prove.

what you do is use your eyes to see which forums have the most posts and threads. ;)

also...even players who have played for a while, a certain percentage of them will indeed visit this website regularly. be it once a day, once every two days, or once a week. as long as they keep visiting on some interval, they would be included.

the only time reach statistics significantly drop...is when a significant amount of people stop visiting the website PERMANENTLY.

anyway, this isn't difficult logic.

i never made the claim that everybody who plays visits the website, or that they even do it often.

i did make the claim that the amount of unique IP's visiting this website on some interval can be correlated to the amount of people playing the game.

if you dispute that, you're nuts.
Does the website's traffic directly reflect the game's traffic? I've heard of this phenomenon for other titles and indie games.

The daily meat of the forum activity is the trade forum. The peak spikes are new people learning and talking about the game. As they become more comfortable with mechanics, it slows down to QQ posts like yours and regular traffic like trading. Hence the real meat of forum goers are looking for builds, or mechanic threads, or did you not look at the search words leading to PoE? do you know how to read that site, or all you can see is the line?

Its not that hard to figure out. And yes there is less concurrent players now than in january...show me a game that has as many or more concurrent players 5 months after a major release as the several weeks after that release, and you can start to have some merit here.

are, or are you not, disputing the following:

"i did make the claim that the amount of unique IP's visiting this website on some interval can be correlated to the amount of people playing the game."

because if you dispute that statement, you aren't really worth replying to.

it would be like saying that the amount of people walking into mcdonalds isn't correlated to how much food people buy there, because some people are just stopping in to take a piss.
Do we really need to do these posts every single day?
Trade an general chat are both busy when I play. I see plenty of people in town even when I re-roll.
Dead game this is not.

EVE Online would be a good example.

Game is very old, and has more active accounts this year than it had last year, despite no new major releases since then.
