This a Bot

Making a bot/autoIT script to automatize process and repat it 1213355 per hour is a exploit. And cheating.

Apparently GGG thinks that better solution is to broke recipe and make it uselless (and make not so fun system even more not so fun) than simple ban the cheaters/scripters. \

Sadly...this whole topic remind me closely Diablo 3 situation. I something doesnt work right - remove it/broke it/nerf it to hell.

Recipe is OK. Cheating/boting/scripting is not. I dont see how making recipe bad for everyone and punish whole playerbase may be even considered good developer reaction to cheating.

Its Diablo 3 "Be calm - we will nerf it" again.

This is an issue that we've known about since we added the recipe - we just didn't prioritise the (annoyingly hard) suppression of the socket display.

This means that if I collect white Thicket bows, alch them to rare and then vendor 5 of them which gives me the best socket number is exploit???

I've burned insane amount of alchs to this with nearly no reward but I my bow "set" is slowly improving and I feel great about it.

If you are going to hide sockets, then this receppie will have no sense for me. It will be better to just trade that alchs for chaos :/

You would still have the option of picking up rare thickets in the wild and trading them in for an extra shot at a good one.

I don't think you read this thread correctly...

Don't panic, I'm sure the GGGuys will sort this out.

Maybe im little overreacting but i HATE cheaters. :)

If that situation (no punishment for proven AutoIt scripting) happens after launch i will immidiately stop supporting this game and GGG.

Just saying. BIG NO for cheaters/scripters/boters/etc...
Confession of an EX D2 Botter:

mmmm where do I start. Several Years back I started playing D2 and somewhere while researching "Horadic Cube Recipes" I stumbled across a D2 Bot. Intrigued I just could not help myself to put it to the test on the small Server where I had been playing.

In short order I was caught, I apologised and was allowed to continue playing. However, I now had a bad rep as a "cheater" and playing amongst such a small community became tedious. As the weeks rolled on I started suspecting that the people that reported me were actually "Botting" themselves. They were just "cleverer" than I and somehow managed to hide what they were doing. I became obsessed to work out how they were doing it. In one huge coup they actually banned 17 of my accounts(Ip Ban). DAMN that really got me going and the challenge was on!

For the next months I set out to "Bot" the shit out of their server. You see the game for me was no longer playing D2 but rather beating the system and I DID succeed. I was never caught again. I eventually stopped botting when I had a mule FULL of Ber and Jah runes. While I never released any of the "Botted items" into the economy, it did put question to the "legitimate" finds.

From my experience, the people that point finger the most, are invariably even more guilty or just plain jealous that they haven't been able to figure out how to do it themselves.

No seriously I am 100% against bots and I sincerely hope that GGG will be able to stop them. Likewise I really hope that we NEVER see "maphack" or other applications being produced.

I'm BACK :)
i had quite a laugh when i learned about the punishment of renaming his high level char. very sensible and intelligent action imho.

i'm myself don't consider running scripts who simulate user input as real cheating, often they make games more worthwhile.
cheating from my point of view is installing proxy clients who modify the client/server communication or hacking the client executable or game local memory in a way it gives you unfair advantage oder other players.

if i had the time i would make a script which transfers and sorts my items from player inventory to the stash by a button click. this would give me a time advantage over other players who spend ages sorting their stuff but is it unfair? i wouldn't either harm other players nor disturb the economy.

same did tehHammer. he was just doing a proof of concept for a already known ingame design weakness, except his constantly running char could have annoyed some people in town. not really a insult you should get banned for.

Ofc it should. He use a bot (very simple one but still a bot), he use it to play a game an a autoamted way without physical involvent. He should be banned. End Of Story.

PPL that justify AutoIt and scripts are delusional and dont know what they talking about. Recenlty D3 was destrpyed by AutoIT and early "Sarkoth scripts" (and others too) and AH autobid/buyouts scripts (they work atm too btw).

You want go with all items from inv with one click to save 3 seconds of your precious time? You will not stop on this and this is only the beggining. And Autoit capabilities are far more than that. You can create bot that run on boss and pick up only rares with greeen linked sockets if you want.

Just play the game like everybody else and like its designed. Period.

I find that some community members are good with Autoit... disturbing. This doesn't bode well. Especially in highly competitive (ladder, PvP tournaments) game like PoE.

100% no cheat policy (including scripting) or this game will follow in D3 footsteps in a month (economy disaster). And Autoit will be a executioner here - just like in D3.

Just saying. And to ppl says that scripts are ok - you are cancer of aRPG (and MMO too) genre in my opinion. I just want you to know.

That's right, the sockets will be hidden. The behaviour you're describing is not something we want people to do. It allows them to bypass using currency to roll socket attempts.

He would have been banned if this was in Open Beta. When we transition to Open Beta, we will make the policy clear and then enforce it with an iron fist. I have good reason to hate the idea of people cheating in PoE more than you do :)

I'm not bothered about bans etc. being handed out at this point of development, but I think you missed the core of this issue: the botting that occurred in this case did have the potential to disturb the economy (by flooding the market with high-socketed items).

Just as well GGG will get a fix in at some point :)

Good to know. I trust you. :)
Im just sick of this that each geme in aRPG genre become scripters/boters/ cheaters/dupers/whatever paradise and that legit players are simple screwed because that.

PS. Now Patch Notes 0.9.11 plx. :)
