This a Bot

i think the people calling for blood over this are a little bit off. a zero-tolerance policy, be it on drugs, fighting, or sploitz, doesn't actually prevent those things; it merely rationalizes harsher punishments. tough-guy posing isn't smart-guy coding

as for him hiding it? good! i think the devs would be pleased that players are invested in creating in-game wealth. that means their game is working.

my suggestion for chris: rename tehhammer's next character to OldBotWithABow

Client side modifications are another thing altogether and much harder to combat I would imagine but stuff like this simple script should not happen at all. I like that Chris is saying that if something like this can happen in the first place then it's their job to design the game better rather than trying to hide behind a zero tolerance policy.

also i think it's worth noting d3 has Zero Tolerance for botting and all it does is serve their bottom line. they ban a bunch of bots, the botters buy (multiple) new accounts from their RMAH profits and they're back in business. it does nothing.

With all due respect, The botter DID NOT inform GGG about it when he knew it worked, The botter only confessed when he was caught, GGG DIT NOT take care of it (yet), and I do not see any flames here, just a lot of VALID concerns about how this will be handled now and in OB.

Please calm down before wondering into troll-land.

Don't Touch my Sweep please GGG!
I can assure you that we have put considerable time into solving the problem of people exploiting the game.

I completely agree that handling exploits incorrectly would kill the game rapidly. I don't intend to let that happen.

I assume me using autohotkey to do fast weapon swaps isn't considered real botting, since its a feature that's being implemented in a few days anyways, right?

My current thinking is that while it's likely we will have a zero-tolerance policy to any form of clientside modification (and will ban instantly for it), if we leave the game exploitable by simple tools such as AutoIt then we deserve all the problems that happen...

Once again Chris shows how awesome he and his team are.
"OldManWithABot" is pretty harmless, I lol'd.

Agree, I wasn't shocked at all by Chris's response. I'm sure he also appreciate the player's ingenuity in finding faults in the game and ways to exploit them.

I do personally find TehHammer's behavior lame, because no matter if it was known before, he should have pressed the developers about it, along with a copy of his script; which does not appear to be the case.

However it's CLOSED BETA so there is no need to be overly negative about it. Most games and software have some kind of holes that are exploited and fixed at some point.

I'm using AutoHotkey to open chat and type "/itemlevel" with one shortcut, I'm so leet ;-)

This is an issue that we've known about since we added the recipe - we just didn't prioritise the (annoyingly hard) suppression of the socket display.

This means that if I collect white Thicket bows, alch them to rare and then vendor 5 of them which gives me the best socket number is exploit???

I've burned insane amount of alchs to this with nearly no reward but I my bow "set" is slowly improving and I feel great about it.

If you are going to hide sockets, then this receppie will have no sense for me. It will be better to just trade that alchs for chaos :/
