Hi, I'd like to offer my character for demonstration. It's a bow Ranger named Slave_Princess. Feel free to change the name if you want.
What's unusual about her: -Survives well in merciless with less than 600 dps. Level 53. -Almost full damage reduction armor, showing that it's feasible to use non-tradition armor. (17 novelty ES) -Main defense is attack plan and move speed. Currently has +52% move speed. At this point I can out run charging rhoas, and if I keep running, cold snaps don't hit me. Main strategy: -Use shock totem and fire traps to lure and booby trap enemies. -Use poison arrow and lesser projectile to shoot near enemies around corners and through doors, thus avoiding the enemy's line of fire. -Kite away when enemies are too close. -Most of the work is done through Damage Over Time. And I do have relatively high HP, and fire rate, to boot. I think this might be a good way to demonstrate how helpful high movement speed can be, that characters can use non-traditional armor, and how anyone can do merciless with clever use of common gems, such as poison arrow, shock totem and fire trap. Hi there Chris,
I would like to submit my marauder build even though you just made one this week. My marauder is name Cyclolife and it is a level 63 hardcore marauder. It mostly use a large amount of life to stay alive and a very high life regeneration. It doesn't used the passive blood magic, but at the place I used some blood magic support gems on some critical skills. You can see the passive skill tree of my build on this:

It doesn't use any shield, but a 2-handed mace for increase damage. It has the heavy strike ability mainly for one target and sweep with gain life on hit for multiple target. This life ability is the one I like to use most of the time. As it doesn't use any shield, his armor is a lot lower then what a tank should have. To conter this, I have the ability of enduring cry with the possibility of having 4 endurance charges which provide it with +20% damage reduction. I also have the possibility to use immortal call to get out of dangerous situation or to have time to deal with particular ennemies. It also use the passive Vitality so that it allows the life regeneration to reach above 200 life/second. For more difficult one on one ennemy, It also can summon a regeneration totem that increase his life regeneration to more than 300 life/second (which I think is very impressive). Thank you! I have Shadow mage (name: Dekkar), which uses as main dmg spell Ethernal Knives linked with this gems: Added fire damage, faster projectiles, faster casting.
I'm also utilizing aura Hatred to significantly increase my damage from this spell. To help in dealing with mobs i'm using three curses: Projectile Weakness, Temporal Chains (this one works really well with Summoned Skeletons, especially in fights with rare mobs) and Elemental Weakness. As an escape mechanism i've taken Lightning Wrap. I played some more with the Dual Wand Wielding Duelist I already posted here.
Besides my 3 main attacks that haven't changed, I now regularly use 3 others skills and 2 auras (Anger & Hatred). If I meet very strong enemies, or big mobs, I turn on my Ample Granite Flask for +10000 Armour and very quickly spam 3 traps in front of me that summon 3 skeletons each, enhanced by the Minion Life support gem. I try to stay close of course to give the minions my auras. In addition to that I use two curses more often, Temporal Chains for single enemies and Warlords Mark with longer durability for big mobs, to gain endurance charges. The increased areas bonus I get from Anger and Hatred also help with these curses. In the heat of battle I now often have 9 charges, 3 of each type flowing around me, and two auras. I sometimes feel like a Las Vegas neon sign. I got the 2% life reg node by now (which includes of course the two 0.5% nodes right before), and now I feel like I can almost reg as much life while spamming attacks, as these costs me with Blood Magic. Probably because 2 of my 3 main attacks are connected to Life Gain on Hit. Now I just need equip with 5 good slots to connected all my main attacks with Greater Multiple Projectiles and Life Gain on Hit :) (My Greater Multiple Projectiles is awesome by the way :D 15%) Last edited by golem09#3277 on Jun 30, 2012, 12:55:30 PM

Well Zril the problem kind of is that the way monsters in the game work, a glass cannon melee build cannot really cross the gap from the end of merciless to chaos unless I dramatically change my passives.
If I respecced I could do it, but the whole point of the character was to be a glass cannon melee witch with a lot of crit and crit damage, so it would be kind of self-defeating. It's nonetheless a very fun build :P The other problem with it is that if I do not pay absolute attention all the time I can die randomly to simple archer packs just from forgetting to activate granite flasks... My life is a struggle! Question: With Blood Magic keystone taken, do mana & aura reserve reduction passives reduce the amount of life used in skills & auras?
Additionally, do mana leech effects grant life per hit/kill with the Blood Magic keystone? Every man's conscience is vile and depraved. You can not rely on it to be your guide when it's you who must keep it satisfied.

" I think it's normal that the game doesn't allow melee glass cannon build to work. You can't blame the game for that, there has to be build that doesn't work. I don't really understand the point of making non-viable builds knowingly. Making of fun build viable is the true challenge. League: default Class: duelis Passive Bow duelist using Explosive arrow. Hight attack speed combined with increased AOE makes this skill insane. Gems: Explosive arrow - increased AOE - greater multi proj - pierce Increased AoE makes charges from one monster hit entire group. Greater multi proj - for additional arrows = for additional fuses per attack which is multiplied by attack speed (2.5 attacks/sec) Pierce - more fuses How it works: The more monsters there is - the more dmg I can deal. 1 second =2.5 attacks x 5 projectiles x 2 (50%) pierce chance = 25 fuse charges per second (if every arrow find target) Single target: Elemental hit + added cold + weapon elemental dmg This combination works great on bosses. Thanks to my attack speed and flat elemental dmg from skill I can do lots of dmg. This build is glasscannon. To avoid taking damage I use: Frostwall + trap = Throwing just in fron of me so if monster are near the wall will separate us Lighting wrap = Look I can move and shoot at the same time! Temporal chains = so much time to stack fuses! |
