Phoenix - You're kidding - right?

Nope. COMPLETELY serious...
The inventory management is one of the things that attracted me to this game. I like having to make choices in RPGs and sorting through my inventory, rearranging, and choosing what to keep or what to drop is part of the fun for me.

I also like when RPGs have at least a dash of realism tossed into the mix. If I open my inventory and I'm greeted with a long list of single slot small icons, the level of immersion has already been lowered. I crave games that allow me to live in another place, time, and circumstances. How would I survive in a cut-throat fantasy world? What would I do in a post apocalyptic world? The dashes of reality help to pull me further into these worlds.

I remember the gold box AD&D Pool of Radiance game that would allow killed NPCs to drop everything on them, but you had to choose what to carry due to encumberance. Once, I had fought long and hard through the depths of a dungeon to find a soldier barracks full of soldiers in full plate armor. Every soldier dropped a full suit of armor that would fetch me quite a bit of platinum, but how could my fighter who was already in plate carry another suit of armor? I couldn't :)

In short, I like the inventory management GGG and keep doing what you guys do best ;)
Haven't played Pool of Radiance in FOREVER. Reinstalling now :)
I am a big fan of the inventory system, but I actually think that it could be worked on.

More space? Yes
But add some weight limitation, so you can carry 100 gems, but not more than 5 pieces of armor.

Regarding just making inv bigger, a big NO from me.

God forbid, you might have to actually make tough choice or manage a finite resource. That might end up challenging you a little.

I am all about refinements like being able to lay a sword down on its side horizontally. This would be more than enough, and more than possible.
I don't think there's massive merit in just making the inventory bigger and bigger and bigger to avoid having to pay attention to what you collect.

I play alot of ARPGs, the inventory here is sized pretty appropriately. It's not Sacred 1, and could use an auto-tetris button, but it's hardly tiny.

Half the games whos inventories you guys are comparing this too are explicitly geared toward spoiled, dense pre-teen youths.

Yeah, but do it manually every 4 minutes?

Thanks for bringing up how PoE did inventory RIGHT.

I Hate the D3 inventory system, it's patronizingly simple.

Inventory tetras is one of the best parts of getting loot.

On a related note, if PoE made it so you could rotate items in your inventory, I may just have an orgasm on the spot, just saying.

Yes, sir, I feel you're correct.

Check that HE DOES NOT LIVE A SINGLE ITEM ON THE FLOOR. HE PICKS EVERYTHING. HE CLEANS THE FLOOR OF ITEMS.

Thats what I wanted to do in PoE.

please refer to my first point. I am guessing you'd be in favor of a hot key that would pick up every single item in the dungeon, catalog and sort it for you into a nice, infinite stash, then let you know what should be sold, equipped and saved for discussion?

When did games start == movies and PDAs?
My friend got a beta key and I was watching him play/helping him make decisions. I'd have to day the most annoying thing about the inventory is not it's total size- just it's height.

Why 5 spaces tall? Four space tall items don't leave enough space below them for anything you actually pick up while not in town, and three space tall items only leave space for two space tall ones, which are usually not worth keeping. Make it 6x10 or 4x15.

EDIT: forget 4x15, leaves the same problem four space tall items give to the three space tall items.

The inv space is also sort of a lie in some situations.

Look at d3 inv:

1 gem = 1/2 of a piece of armor

It means you can carry more armors, but less gems than in a system where 1 gem = 1/6 of a piece of armor (being made the proper proportion resizes, ofc).

I think PoE is far behind Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 and GrimDawn on inventory design.

Its one of the most annoying things with PoE right now. You cant cash shop around, you cant mod it either. Back in Mythos I bought 3 inventory pages for 15 bucks for one month. So I had 4 inventory pages.

The way we have in PoE is completelly wrong.

Chris himself should really make a sticky post saying "inventory space will not be changed by any means, stop asking about" like, so that we won't see the same shit cycling every now and then.

Enough is enough.

Edit: We want to see some creative things to be posted, not this senseless subject.
