Or people can get with the times, wide screen has been mainstream in first world places for over 7 years now.

i'm going to throw in my two cents. i started playing again today. i quit last time because as much fun as it was, i kept feeling dizzy after playing due to the zoom level. i have quit again, after about half an hour, because i feel dizzy. i really want to play, but can't. period. oh well.

Feedback:
Hi team,
I think, that the problem in this game is not the "zoom", but the very huge textures. I stopped playing this game after ten minutes. These huge textures spoils all the pleasure of playing ...
Have a nice day

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, so please treat my reply only as a general response to the camera zoom issue - I'm sorry if I don't address specific comments that I may have missed.
There are performance concerns with allowing the camera to zoom out further. It's an "n squared" relationship between the zoom distance and the number of objects that the game has to render. We're already looking into ways to make the game faster on old machines, and zooming it out further would undermine this. In the last year we've zoomed it out by 5% and 10% (after putting a lot of work into improving performance so that we have room to do this).
We've balanced our ranged combat around the distance that players are able to attack. If we zoomed it out further, you would not be able to attack monsters that you see on the edge of the screen. There are also issues with the distance that objects are serialised to you from the server, so increasing zoom distance would increase bandwidth consumption and (marginally) server load.
I understand that players abusing strange aspect ratios are able to see further than others, and this is something we're looking for a good solution for.
I'd like to support further zoom distance in the future, but there are a whole lot of big things that will have to change before we can do that - ranging from performance to balance concerns. This is not something we're able to just change with a simple number.
We recently compared our zoom level to other popular Action RPGs. When taking into account field of view and relative run speed, it wasn't too dissimilar.
I don't really understand limiting choice. If people are intelligent enough to figure out the skill tree, they can probably figure out if zooming out too much kills their performance.

It's not just the players they are worried about, they are also worried about the servers. If you can see more then more data like enemies needs to be handled! It would require them to re-optimize the server to handle the increased load each player would generate.
It would also potentially increase the latency/lag players experience.
The bolded part is also of concern.

That's why we hope, more cash flows in, so they can do that :).
GGG thank you for all the great things you are doing. You have combined every element of all other great Rpg's and joined them together as one Diamond, that will shine Forever.

I didnt read through all 11 pages of posts but wanted to add my opinion on it....
i agree a little more zoom out would be nice. I play on a wide screen so that's not an issue for me. also while moving in any direction that's not south oriented its fine. however when moving south, southwest/east the ui cuts off the screen so that you cant see enemies that are in range to attack you. this includes archer and casters which isn't too big of an issue because once you realize they are there you can just shoot in that direction and kill them off screen. But goat men can leap attack you from off-screen without warning, i play hc and I've had several very close calls due to a pack of goat men champs leaping at me out of no where.
may not make a difference to anyone, but just felt like adding my opinion
