Poe Seems Poorly Optimized?
Maps with burning ground / golems drop my FPS to about 20. I afked in a map and came back and my vid card was running around 5 C higher than it does on full load (cpu was at 23% usage, GPU was only at 55% usage.)

this isn't ideal I know...
but you can use third party software to force FPS cap. it's what I do on my pitiful 670 :) but yes, PoE does make my card crank higher than most any other game I play and it does worry me quite a bit. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

Game is optimized pretty horridly... And like the desyncs are more noticable with people with faster internet as opposed to people with shit latency, the optimization issues are more noticable on PC with above average specs, compared to people with bare bones rigs.
My 670FTW under load with 99%(that 1% is this game obviously) of the games I play ranges from 50-60c, and those are games played on max settings(most of those games are more demanding than this game). In this game in certain areas or with certain spells, my GPU will inch very near 80c, monitoring with Precision. Game also never uses more than roughly 50% load, yet will heat my GPU like no other game it's played, and this on the lowest possible settings. No shadows, Vsync'd, etc... Worst offenders are the docks, docks like maps, maps with lightning/frost skeletons, dark forests, few other maps/areas... You can just tell in those areas or with certain particle effects, even before your GPU fan starts firing up or you GPU temp monitor starts rising, just by the look and game performance that something is "off". But I mean is any of this a surprise to anyone? Look at all the other "technical" issues with this game, that in most other games are ironed out early, instead of late in the development cycle. Just seems like the priorities of GGG are completely out of whack, or they're just spinning a wheel to pick what they address in whatever order. Anyhoo, well the game runs, but the game runs like a fat kid who just finished a 2 hour bender at Old Country Buffet... i5-3570k EVGA GeForce GTX 670FTW All games installed on a SSD 8GB(2x4GB) Ram @1600 Windows 7 Home Premium 1680x1050 vsync'd 60mhz Last edited by StinkFinger#4623 on Mar 22, 2013, 8:06:27 AM

Vsync is an option in the game and it limits the fps to 60. How can you have a high end video card and not know what vsync is?

" There's no worst offenders,in the meaning that ALL the areas in this game run badly. At least in my case (HD7950 boost custom cooling) it happens that my GPU sits at 20/30/40% with a temp of 54°,which usually is the temp i get when the workload is 90% in other apps. Now,when i walk into dark forest the FPS decrease,i start to get stutters, but the thing is that the workload and temp stays unchanged. It may spike to 70% sometimes, but it' stays there for 1 sec, then goes down to 30%,as usual. What worries me the most is this max-temp/low-workload ratio,i mean,i'm not really sure if that's healthy for my card. That's why GGG should look into this ASAP,beside the fps performance,it's a matter of hardware safety, some serious stuff if you ask me. "vsync is a good way to boost that 80 to 100+ degrees, though. Optimization is usually both a difficult and time-consuming process, but I really think GGG should make optimizing the game's particle/spell effects a high priority (or at least offering an option for lower quality spell effects). Another patchwork solution would be adding a render quality slider that flatout reduces all graphical quality. Makes stuff look pretty ugly but it does wonders for performance. No idea how hard it'd be to add though.

" no. go back and read the thread. if you still don't get it,go back and read again. if you still don't get it,do a reseach on forums. if you still don't get it,grab an hardware monitor overlay and see by yourself in game.
