Our feelings about Beta Invite complaints

The best solution IMO would be a third timer for active users but increase the time so that you send roughly the same amount of invites per day. This would give active veterans the best odds of being selected and people wont feel as if all the invites are wasted on non-active users.

If so, we'd have to be very careful to make sure people understand that "active" does not mean "spamming". For a while people thought that the number of posts mattered, so we saw thousands of tiny posts that just wasted everyone's time.

Instead of saying "active users" try saying "users who have logged in recently" or "users that have posted recently" depending which you are describing =D
I play sc2 at top 0.1%, D2 casually few years ago, Dota for 7 years real tryhard, casual league of legends.

I love my beta key! Got some feedback about quest direction, projectiles, UI, and a lot of compliments about the art style.

I just think that maybe if you guys let us know a time frame in which you are giving out guys on Twitter and FB (which hasn't seen any keys yet??), then we don't have to sit here all day refreshing the pages.

I mean the idea is for publicity, but I don't see the benefit in having your community sit there and hit F5 all day. It makes the let-down that much worse when you worked that hard to get a key. At least when people know an event is coming up, they don't have to feel glued to their computer for a chance to win.

I really like the idea of the twitter and FB give aways with the picture of the keys, but I can't be refreshing twitter or FB all day every day like this :(

Sorry but many guys over here in the forums dont get what this "Giving Keys on Twitter, FB or other social com. sites" is about!

Its about spreading the news of PoE Beta to a wider range of people, not only those in the official forum. Its about motivating externals to come to the forum, join the community and play the beta.
To put it in a nutshell, its about reaching people who are not a part of the forum community yet

At least thats what I think it is!

Sure, a lot of guys in the forums also follow PoE on twitter, FB and other Sites but mainly its a tool for external ad, as far as I understand.

Right, but my point is that you've already gotten my eye on the game. I don't see how someone who's already interested in the game should be refreshing FB / twitter over and over -- the message is already achieved (spreading the word of PoE).

By announcing time ranges for these posts at least you'll pull in a crowd every time you post there's going to be keys. This also makes people less inclined to sit at their computer for hours on end refreshing twitter or FB.
Thanks Chris for spending your time for an informative post. Some users might find this is what they needed to hear I guess. I think the timers are fine how they are. Whoever gets in, gets in. I don't exactly consider myself very lucky, but maybe someday!

I think the word is spreading rapidly, I saw the post counts in July and saw them now, thousands and thousands of posts, that is a lot of traffic! Though a lot of it is people spamming useless information, but I have found that there are also a lot of informative posts, and ideas floating around. More of that would be nice!

All in all, I hope you guys are proud of the awesome work you are doing! Hope you have fun visiting the states!

Thanks for the quick reply :)
I saw some of the posts you are talking about, and you're right no need to increase the needless postings.
now that you've posted exactly why you're keeping the test small at this stage i think most of us can understand the process :D
"And the timer said let there be light!"
"And there was light, The timer said Let there be thunder, And there was thunder"
"And the timer said LET THERE BE TORTURE STARVATION AND INSOMNIA, and there was all of these things struck down upon.... anyone who gazed upon its deathly figure.."
i think the biggest reason why your getting so many complaints is that everyone is waiting for a game like this to come out, path of exile, diablo 3, torchlight 2 etc etc....everyeone is waiting for them and are starting to get restless....i really appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts on the matter about fairness...i think you guys did a good thing about making the veteran timer...but other then that keep up the great work!!! i really look forward to playing this game! i also think a good way to help weed out everyone that has made 1000 accounts just to increase their odds of getting a key...is to make a minimum post count before your eligible for access...not only will it weed out the fake accounts, but also the people who signed up long long ago and forgot about the game or were never active to start out with!
Normally I don't care if I get into a beta or not, since its usually entirely random. Its just that your methods made it feel a lot more personal this time around with how keys were given out, since I can really only blame myself for not snagging a key faster than the next guy or coming up with a better comment for your contests.

And having a contest based on knowledge of a game where none of the contestants have first hand knowledge of seems like a bad ideal.

By "active user" I mean the people who have logged in withing a certain time frame. Maybe within the last 30 days

How do I talk about a game I have not played yet? I can make only speculations about things I read somewhere or see in a stream. I would consider anything I write that is not based on hard facts about the game spam.

Perhaps you can post any genuine questions or concerns you might have about the game? Participate in suggestions based 'on what you've seen so far' or 'previous experience.'
Granted, it does limit one's subject matter but we can (try to) make it work.
