They can also prevent you from stacking stash tabs with items by making much more possible rare names... My guess is that they wont simplify getting alchs.

That would never work.
Adding more rare names doesn't prevent people from stacking tabs.
In fact it just makes it MORE necessary to stack tabs, and widens the disparity between people who have lots of tabs and people who don't.
The same would be true of requiring matches to have the same base type.

Do you really think there are people who would buy lets say 200 stash tabs only to get a small ingame advantage? That doesnt make sense.
So 99% of the players would have to trade for the recipe. (and spend almost the same time trading)
And to that 1% diamond supporters: have fun storing rare items...

It's more than a small advantage.
And yes, they would.

If you have to spend time searching for matches and trade those rare items, the advantage becomes really small.
And no those "pay to win guys" would rather go to ebay and buy cool stuff for 600$ thats worth more than all the alchs you could ever get...

The matching needs only a bit of system to organize the tabs, not that big effort if you have enough of them. The time consumption of match-trades can also be very small, if this can be done 'automated' via web interface.

hint: there are players who will never think about paying real cash for dubious transactions at ebay or elsewhere, but like to 'play on their own efficiency'...

Is it just me or 5 items of same type and rarity recipe is overpowered? With only 7 different items you have 21 different combinations and it grows binomially which lets you farm items with many sockets.
This no longer works. Expedited because of me.

I did it once and I would do it again.

You've never seen the stats - the items were always unid' - and you still see the implicit mod (where it can be different, like on jewelry)

I've found some jewelry matches in legacy league (what shouldnt matter here), even a triple matching ring. Will check later in the afternoon what I get offered.

and confirmed: 2 rare jewelry items with names matching sell for an Orb of Chance, triple match sells for an Alchemy.

Spoiler

I think its not neccessary to prove that all three rings were named 'Amber Clutch'. Tests with multiple (up to 3) dual matches changed nothing in the Orb of Chance recipe (one Orb of Chance per match)

You could see the socket setup of the item in the preview upper tab back in my time.
I made one of the first 6L bows back in november 2011 like that. (prolyl a link somewhere in my post history)

I remenber the hassle and the notes I had to take to track the permutations I had already tried among my 80 bows lol..took about 4 hours once i had collected enough

You proove that 3 jewelry items can give an orb of alchemy (and nothing else!). Given that it is not possible with any known recipe, it is likely a pretty fair assumption to trust the specifics you provide. Thanks! :)
