[2.2 Whispering Ice, Lowlife, Pure Unique wearer 1900+ Int, updated]

Hey WaffleT, how often do you find yourself using life leech gem instead of iron will? I've been using Voidbringer gloves and casting enfeeble (gem on chest option of flammability too) and double Vaal Disc gems. Vaal Discipline are like life pots on steroids for this build, I don't see the need for life leech other than for reflect maps which I rather not run altogether.

What do you think, then, of removing Ghost Reaver and the one int to allocate them elsewhere?

Spoiler

I've been using:
BM-Purity of Ice-Purity of Fire-LowLevel Clarity on boots (3 auras off life)
Golem-Vaal Disc-Vaal Disc-Inc Duration on gloves

Easier coloring, and I don't feel the need for Ghost Reaver with 2 Vaal Disc gems.

I use lifeleech all the time now. I ran iron will for a while instead to use the voidbringers but felt safer with lifeleech and gentle touch.

The main reason for that is lifeleech is always active. There is no catch with reaction time or chain stun as the lifeleech will still be happening from the storms you already have going while as vaal discipline you need to recognise the danger and then not be stunned/dead while your character casts it.

I definitely recommend vaal disc for all high level content but I like life leech for all content now.

I hadn't thought of running clarity on life as well since we have so much more mana then life but yeah you can squeeze a low level in there pretty easy to save space on that mana pool for going voidbringers.

I can see wanting to drop life leech to get those 3 points of travel, ghost reaver and vaal pact. I really consider them worthwhile though
For the lucky people in warbands we have new best in slot boots

Losing 30 Int from the Sin Trek but that flat ES would be really good defensively :)
Finally farmed my cards for the staff and been lucky enough to corrupt a lvl 4 enlighten

Lvl 76 so far and it's going smooth ! Pretty safe and the damage is ok. I didn't choose avatar of fire way yet as it's currently enough damage for the current content i run, and i just can't stop being in love with the shattering sound in this game ^^
But i still think i should run fire pen instead of cold pen/add cold as more than half of my damage is fire instead of cold.

As i don't have enough int/mana yet, i managed to squeeze a lvl 10 clarity and it's enough. I really wish to get lucky and stop bricking my discipline gems also ^^

I'm using the headhunter because even tho the tooltip damage and ES are slightly lower, this item is the funniest one in game so...yeah :)

@Kagari

Nice man glad you are having fun. I do think that fire penetration is probably more damage then an added cold damage but that is tricky math to figure out when your damage is at that 80/20 split of cold and fire.

I think i'd want to run headhunter in every build if I had one even when its not the best option just for fun value.

I have bricked many a discipline. Come see my collection of level 20 Vaal disciplines. Just had two of my enlighten gems hit level 3 though so gonna corrupt them and hope.

I would look into leveling a new herald of ice as a 20/20 gem is going to give far more then a level 21 version. The 15% increased global cold damage is worth quite a bit.

Those Sin Trek are low rolls, they are so bargin cheap you should shop around and get higher ES on them. Flat ES makes huge differences with that Int scaling :P

Gotta save up those divines and get that extra 3% Int on the staff. I do like it when the gear has room to grow. Good to have goals.

The build doesn't freeze anymore but still gives chill + temp chains which was far more the defence then the freeze. Just drop avatar of fire if you feel the want for freeze you'll just lose some damage.

I've talked with some people running the build in tempest. Keep you vaal discipline finger ready and play safe and it should be fine

for helm Black Sun Crest for damage
High ES helmet for safety
A person in this thread was running alphas howl for some evasion and easier aura management. I kinda feel like you'd lose too much ES but an option

Thank you very much for the compliments :)

I think this build can do any content. I'm not a hardcore gamer enough to have the fragments to run uber atziri but I think this build could do it with how simply we steamroll over bosses at the moment.

I wish I could have tried a level 82 map to say for sure as I've never had one drop but I was doing level 80 maps with ease so if they are not too much harder then I think they would be very doable. Merciless Malachai certainly fell over without doing any damage as I got to him while progressing through the game.

For that content I would recolour the staff and swap hypothermia for concentrated effect as that would have maximum effect on the tough bosses. I had considered Auxium as the ES is very good. I would probably change into that for uber atziri. I don't consider the freeze duration worth anything though as freeze is never an issue and I always run a removes freeze flask for strongboxes.

Atziri reflects curses so for her I would swap into rare gloves with high Int and ES total and add in a CWDT warlords mark. The vertex has "enemies cannot leech mana from you" and Sin Trek has "enemies cannot leech life from you" making you immune to that curse. (I used to bother but now just take the temp chains and kill her without swapping)

As I mentioned in the flasks section a taste of hate and rumi's concoction would really improve defence as well.

Finally a big panic button to have would be Vaal Discipline - Increased duration - Faster casting

I run ele weakness maps but you do need to be careful when you do, I can see most people wouldn't want to but this build can play very defensive, if you cast your storms ahead of you then you kill offscreen. Reflect also not an issue with vaal pact and 81% fire resistance, 91% with flask popped.

The mods I reroll are blood magic, double resistance lowering curse and no life or mana regen.

I've currently lent my items to a friend of mine who saw my build and wanted to try it out so I've rerolled a new character I'm just getting through merciless atm. Here are the upgrades I had planned before I started a new one.

Items to Vaal
Spoiler

Gloves
(4 to 6)% increased Cast Speed or
Curse Enemies with level (10 to 12) Elemental Weakness on Hit

Boots
(2 to 4)% Chance to Dodge Attacks

Amulet
Enemies can have an additional Curse

Rings
(4 to 6)% increased Cast Speed

Okay, so I respecced my Level 97 Scion in Warbands to a similar passive tree (few different nodes because of scion start and personal preference). I'm currently in the process of leveling to 100 with this build and so far I like it a lot. Once I am 100 I'll try to kill both Uber and Core Malachai and can post some feedback here as well.

Adjustments regarding gear:
I use a Black Sun Crest right now instead of the Vertex and switched the Asenath's for a pair of good ES gloves. This boosted my INT by a good amount (around 1750 now with non-legacy Perandus, with 100 and my standard legacy ones I should easily be around 2-2.1k). Another reason was that I'm mapping with a friend of mine who plays a curser build and Asenath's is obviously not very good then. As an additional benefit the gloves have decent resists as well, which makes me capped even in Elemental Weakness maps (which was very important for me).

I lose around 100 flat ES with this, but my actual ES only dropped from around 9k to slightly below 8,7k.

As to mapping in 79-82 maps: I died twice so far, but that was mainly because I haven't played lowlife for quite a while - errors on my part for playing too recklessly. Ele Reflect in -max maps can hurt quite a bit if you stack your Icestorm and then a rare appears from offscreen and walks right in there, especially if its -16%. Besides that I am afraid of the big phys hits, since the build has very little defense in that regard. For example Porcupines in a dangerous map (sth like Vulnerability + Crit Chance/Damage + Monster Damage + Shocking Ground) can easily kill you if you dont play careful.
I might try out Immortal Call with CwDT against this, should help quite a bit.

No Regen maps are actually quite easy to run, for those I just swap Vaal Discipline with Vaal Clarity (which lasts around 15 seconds on max level with 20/20 Increased Duration, even longer if its a temp chain map) and use a low level mana flask for periods in between to get the souls. Only mod I always reroll is Blood Magic, everything else should be fine with careful play.

Another thing I changed is that I run Purity of Fire in the helmet instead of Purity of Elements, for the additional 1% max fire res.

Regarding boss damage: My dps is around 3.7k now without Conc Effect and with pretty lackluster rare jewels. With both Conc and 20/20 Righteous Fire (can sustain it for a while with 2x Ruby Flasks + Vaal Discipline) it goes up to over 8k. Melts pretty much everything instantly.

I only hope GGG can optimize the spell effects a bit in the next patch, on my pc it's running fine but in parties I occasionally get complaints.

Hi all
I am kind of torn in between the fire and ice variants of this build.
Fire is just so much pure damage while ice provides better defences (plus the shattering sounds *-*)

For now I spec out of Avatar of fires for a hybrid damage.
And hence my support gems are Faster cast - Spell Echo - Life leech - Hypothermia - Conc Effect
Cold / Fire penetration is dropped in this case.
Just want to seek opinions if the penetration gems are too much to lose ?
