New Skill Development - Vigilant Strike

As a guy whos only really played melee for the past 2.5 years i don't find this skill exciting. Being one-shot or similar has nothing to do with this skills buff. Melee has no issues with sustained damage reduction. You don't slowly (3ish seconds) watch your health pool drop until you're dead. Its instant. This is why CwDT is popular, immunity from deathblows like that make the game enjoyable for melee...

Instead, compact this IC CwDT mechanic we have "abused" and throw it onto melee only. "f you were to take X% of your life, become immune to physical damage for X seconds." Focus on trying to find a melee only solution to this and everyone will be happy.

In the end this is just Heavy Strike with 15% more dmg and now we will take even less damage from trash mobs? Zzzzz.
I'm not sure how to feel concerning Vigilant Strike. I understand your reasoning but until now always hitting was exclusive to Vaal attack skills and Vagan weapons, and a few unique weapons (unless you wanted to sacrifice critical strikes). "Hits cannot be Evaded" seems misplaced and open to abuse. This is just further incentive for players to build crit.

The post suggests this isn't the final iteration, and we're just getting a preview. So I'm hopeful. I really approve of the Fortify mechanic; melee needs this. Unavoidable spike damage is just too strong right now, and with Enduring Cry (Cast) going the way of the dodo as Enduring Cry (Warcry) steps in, fighters will need some love.

In any case, I think we can all agree on one thing: RIP Heavy Strike (no one used you anyway, with your guaranteed knockback), RIP Double Strike, RIP Glacial Hammer.
Bring back race seasons.

With things like point blank and other mecahnics, there is the possibility of such a thing as a "melee caster", meaning point blank, in the face of oncoming sh*t.

Therefore, such a melee distance caster could use a scepter/staff, and throw out a quick occasional whack (even if no damage) for this buff, and that's probably just fine... (and yes, they'll be in warcry range also, thus likely taking advantage of those too...)

But I'm glad for this mechanic for 2h melee especially, seems to me they would need such a thing, no shield and all, just to help catch up to where other melees already have been defense wise.
Love the easter-egg-like exclamation mark and the pic that it links to. That goatman never saw it coming! :D

Does it works with dual wield?

Why is it an attack? Should it be like a defensive buff? Hmm, it will be a mandatory skill either way. Overall damage reduction for melee chars would have been better balance wise but nice new gem regardless.

It's a melee attack so that it applies as a MELEE BUFF.

"Overall damage reduction for melee chars" And how would the game understand taht you are a melee char in order to apply the buff?
Hooray, more burn prolif skills.

...

Unless this is red herring b8, and you're removing burn prolif. :D

Can feel that this skill will be broken with endu cry / daresso's defiance / Warlord mark and herald of Ash prolif.

Why? Enduring cry is becoming self-cast-only, supposedly, so that'll be a slower build than, you know, any other burn prolif out there right now.

Nope sir, sorry but even if they remove cwdt endu cry, it will be still op.
Take a look at dual strike ash prolif 2M build.
