Stringing on the Kickstarter customer, or Why this game needs to die
To be honest, while rares should be designated as BiS in the long run, if the builds happens to lack that "something" to keep them motivated, a BiS rare would just be a number game for that build.....and that falls in the same alley with Diablo 3. If one does not have any issue playing that type of game style, they should not have any issue playing Diablo 3.
The idea knowing that in the end all my build will eventually have rare gears make me feel sick in a sense that I would just find the game very stagnant. Edit: Just to be clear on this part, I am not replying out of context from your post Scrotie. This is my feeling if the game is truly designed around the aspect for rare items. I am actually glad their some uniques out there that I want to pursue (with the exception of few that really should be gone) and build around them (If I have not already). Either they are unique in a way it provides juice to my enjoyment, or they provide the fuel for me to be successful in end-game maps...to a good extent. If I make a build that only uses rare items, I better make a build that is crazy in a sense that I do not mind playing around for hundreds of hours. " I never got that impression. It's an ARPG, the current game isn't really about twitch/reactive play. There's some "oh shit" moments but it's not FPS fast gameplay by any means. Going through your list, the game currently revolves around mechanic interaction. This isn't so much during play as it is in planning now. Which build planning is much more exciting, much more variety and much more difficult. What tactics back then? The most complicated fight was probably Brutus, especially when they added the hook as the "don't get hit" policy got much harder. Does that fight remotely stand up to most of the new boss fights now? Atziri is the definition of a tactics fight to the point where if you know it well enough you can do it with 1 life as there's a video of someone doing it out there. It wasn't rewarding to use multiple skills, it was tedious and felt required to stay relevant. I hated it. Curse wasn't optional, it was a factor of DPS, if you did ele damage w/o ele weakness this got real annoying if they had res. Without end cry guys like Brutus were hell, ofc 10k ES solved that problem as well. I don't remember any care about positioning. I mean shit, one of the most popular HC builds was summoner and half the time minions would wander screens away from the user. How would this game have skill shots? Pierce wasn't really popular back then, even before fork/chain were introduced. With their addition positioning became even more irrelevant. I really think hearing more details from you guys the rose tinted glasses is a good way to put it. I remember those days very well and many of the things in the game now were things I was on this forum begging for. Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th

Yea totally agree with you op. I'm just waiting for a new arpg...hope it won't be too long.

"If by "multiple" you mean 5 or more, then I can agree; if you mean 2 to 4 then I beg to differ. There is a sweet spot right around 3 skills which is great for games like this one. One-skill spamming is just as obnoxious as five-skill Starcraft micro. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. " I think most people do play more than 1 skill. I use 1. static strike 2. leap slam 3. vaal ground slam 4. and I remove cwdt gem and cast ec when I think I need to. |

" I totally disagree. But I doubt anyone has found a way to not use flasks, main attack and movement skill. Personally I would be happiest if all I had to do was right click, most of my builds are designed to be as such. I mean shit, everyone says this game is great because it's so much like D2, a game that had 2 skills and pots. How is it being a "one click spamfest" a bad thing. I just don't get what game you all were playing back then. Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th

On this particular subject, i think current skill diversity when hold in a light of "efficiency" is in a good spot.
Everybody needs in order to be efficient 1) single target 2) aoe attack 3) movement This can be augmented by 1) curses 2) decoy ability 3) power move (vaal skills) And all of this is coupled with flasks So in therms of availability we got plenty. The only problem i see with this observation is the mob composition and the low requirements to alternate out of your AOE attack. This is probably one of the reasons why phylacteral link was introduced, to force a player into a position where his single target becomes highly relevant. And just look at the out-cry GGG got for trying that :D. With better monster composition or AI/ability's this problem could also be solved, obviously this piggy backs on the whole AOE-UBBER-ALLES sentiment. Peace, -Boem- edit : i loved playing with 280apm in WC3 btw, definitely gave an edge and a sense of accomplishment when you simply "out-played" an opponent on a micro/macro level. But that can never be realized in a game like PoE and neither should it strive to do so. "Um, you do realize you could bind up to 8 different skills to F1-F8 then use those keys to change your right-click, right? I don't get what D2 you were playing. " I would pose, that the big difference is that both option where legit? (as in "end-game" successful) Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

Endgame on D2 was 2 skills and tele.
But hey, 2 skills is a whole new world compared to one. |
