Mechanics thread

I am terribly sorry to ask a possibly annoying question, but i simply can not find this answer anywhere and i've looked for... well, almost 2 hours, and read most of the OP in search of answer.

My question is as follows - i'm considering to build an ice shot point blank iron grip duelist bow-user. and i wonder wether the node 'ice Bite' which gives: "30% increased cold damage with weapons" will work. I'm hoping for, is that it should be understood as a modifier of the converted frost damage, (0.4(conversion))*(0.3(ice bite)) while i fear that the actual effect of the skill will simply take any cold damage i may have on my weapon (and possibly added from amulets or rings + quiver?) and multiply that by the +30% ice bite multiplier.
I will probably take it anyway as i intend to aim for a lot of cold & phys damage on as much gear as i can, but it is very important for my E-peen that i deal as much damage as possible, and the confusing wording of nodes like ice bite is getting to me.

that is almost the same question as a few posts ago.

physical base * (ice shot's % + hatred's %) = base ice damage
base ice * (1+ weapon damage passives, elemental passives, and cold passives) + [acessories for cold * (1+ elemental + cold)] = cold damage * (1+ weapon elemental support) * (1+ point blank) = total cold damage.

everything relevant i could think of at the given moment.

i'm sorry to go maybe offtopic or ask something that has been answered sooner, but i cant seem to find answer.

Does tempest shield stuck with necromantic aegis? Im planning on building summ/cold witch, but in case this skill would effect my zombies, id rather go lightning.

[EDIT] Found the answer: it does not effect summons, if nothing changed(answer is 10months old).

Yeah, while i read that, i think it is unnecessary for you to post the entire formula, as i am not having any problems calculating damage. If you read my first post more closely you would notice that it is a question of in which phase the ice bite modifier is applied.

What category of modification does the wording of nodes as 'Ice Bite' imply?

Ice Bite increases Cold damage (an elemental damage type) dealt with Weapon Attacks. It's an Increased-type modifier, which all stack additively with eachother. It'll be added to any other Increased Elemental damage when Cold damage is calculated.

A damage bonus can apply multiple times. In this case, it applies to any flat Cold damage from gear, to Hatred's added Cold damage, and to Physical converted to Cold damage (I personally calculate all these separately and add them together. Easier to follow what's going on). They are all sources of Cold damage dealt with Weapons.

There's something wrong with the damage calculations for my marauder.

I've got a great mallet (base damage 41-86) with 20% quality and 90% increased physical damage.

(41-86) * (1+ 0.2 + 0.9) = 86.1 - 180.6

310 strength (62%), a ring with 2-5 increased physical damage and 109% increased physical damage from passives.

I'm getting a bit technically exhausted on all this theorycrafting, but as i've understood it, 'With weapons' basically means non-spell damage?

and since ice arrow is not a spell, no problems whatsoever.

I believe quality is multiplicative?

I'll do the math after this map.

Well I crunched a bunch of numbers and have no idea what the problem is. First of all, your STR from passives + 30 (base mara STR) is only 210, not 310. Second, if quality was multiplicative, the damage is higher than your predictions (even with the lower STR number!) so I was wrong. But with quality being additive, the numbers are too low!

Only thing I can think of: do you have STR on your gear?
