Did you remove /oos or fix desync?
" First thanks for the reply and thanks in general for responding to the issue even if it isn't your 'purview'. To some extent I disagree with that statement. Yes you'd have a lot of complaints but I think it would mostly be made out of an idle/bored point of view and they wouldn't carry much weight, where as a hardcore death due to desync or a few normal deaths with xp loss is a much more long lasting disappointment. people would be right back at it and peachy fine once the servers were up. Particularly if it was a planned downtime with some advanced notice. I'll concede to your wisdom on that one though & trust you know what's best for your game, you certainly have access to more data than i do. And you sir, should go take a nap! Cheers | |
As a dagger shadow whirling blades is my mobility and escape skill and I love and abuse the fuck out of it.
If I have to get into a better offensive position I whirl. If I have to save my skin I whirl. If I have to get across and instance fast I whirl. If I have to get past players enemies or what not in a tight spot I whirl through. For some reason, whirl tends to desync a lot. I often die mid air as if a ground-air missile just hit my toon or if my poor shadow had hit an invisible wall and got its head cracked. It's sort of funny if it wasn't for the death penalty and the fact at level 67 it's either slow xp at the docks / catacombs or slow xp a t the maps. But you know what's worse? I get dc'ed loading instances. I get dc'ed if I alt tab (heck sometimes the client freezes). And that's way worse. Unfortunately for everyone involved there's a lot on ggg's platter and so far it's just 20 kiwis sleeping under their desks hammering their keyboards. I'm sure they'd like an schedule that's compatible with their family life and we'd like a more polished game. Well Chris and the gang, I hope ya get the money to expand and I hope you hire the right guys. Closed beta player, August 2011 Last edited by BitmapFrogs#6778 on Feb 8, 2013, 7:06:17 PM

I'd just like to add that I seem to be suffering from seemingly the same thing.
Desync seems to be a familiar term around here (Which is interesting), but to me these seem like latency spikes. Do these sound like the same symptoms? I really haven't seem much mention of latency itself here. ~70ms latency 99.9% of the time Large pack of mobs come on the screen (most commonly including a yellow) Latency spikes to ~500-3000 Latency graph looks like this 70---------------------900-------------------70 (the 900 is just a giant spike straight up) When that spike happens, mobs often teleport around. Usually resulting in my death. I haven't been playing since I made it a decent way into act1 cruel due to this. My skill/gear setup probably isn't the greatest, contributing more to the deaths side than maybe necessary, but when I'm not lagging like this I don't generally die. For what it is worth, I did try moving game from HDD to SSD. No real difference. This has been generally happening every 2 minutes lately. Not sure if I just didn't notice it in normal or what (yes, I did do some facerolling at times), but with the XP penalty it makes it far more apparent to me. |

The very existence of /oos was intended to be a secret. That it exists will simply force players to macro it to all their hotkeys, or some similar nonsense.
Kind of defeats the purpose of coded prediction and developing sync detection, don't you think? If there's a sync problem, testers should be forced to encounter the issue. Anyway, when it became public knowledge many of us predicted it'd just be shut off on the beta client. GGG will fix their sync problems the old fashioned way, and this will take time. They won't go about it the way other companies do. Other ARPG producers seem to just delete mechanics that cause sync problems, rather than developing improved methods of maintaining sync. Maybe we could wake up tomorrow and find whirling blades.... deleted. But no, good thing we're dealing with GGG here. Iterative improvement. Take a slow breath. Things are better than they were 4 months ago, if only slightly. Desyncs that DO happen seem to resolve themselves more quickly. --
I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago. |

Some of the posts in this thread infuriate me greatly, although it is not surprising. The mindfuck of some expecting a beta version to work flawlessly coupled with absolute technical misunderstanding of the GGG explanations, major lack of knowledge on the subject and furthemore the flawed entitlement.. I admire the kind and reasonable stance GGG is keeping despite some of these reactions - nobility is real.

" This. And to add to that, a lot of you say /oos helped you, while as more and more people become knowledgeable of the command, used it to grief others. I did test this myself, and not only it broke a lot of parties because it created more lag then without it, but you could also use it to "push back" one of the party members and snag his loot ( if you had the timing right ) or get someone killed. I believe at that point it defeated the very purpose of that command and as such, was reported for its unintended behavior, and removed afterwards. It is probably going to be reworked in some way. It is definitely not making the game worse, and its definitely not intentional, and not targeted at anyone personally. Last edited by Shadowness_#1803 on Feb 8, 2013, 9:12:06 PM

Nearly 2 years now this desync issue has been going on...
Nearly 2 years people have been pleading it for it to be addressed... Nearly 2 years later it's even worse... Ya, I don't have any faith in it being fixed anytime in the near future... |

" There is probably a reason other companies deal with desync in different ways, cause what GGG are trying to do is perhaps impossible. If they indeed have been promising to fix this for 2 years like StinkFingers says I have zero faith in them. (didn't even hear about this game till half a year ago) Well if they can't fix it Desync will actually kill this game, but they will have made millions before then. So probably ok with them. My guess have to be that these desync problems have to be based on peoples connections.
I play with an average of 35 ms latency, and while I sometimes notices minor desyncs (mostly during peak hours) There have never been a problem that have made the game unplayable for me. I pretty much use Shield Charge all the time, and have only been teleported back to were I started, maybe 10 times total (again, during peak hours). People should get their Internet connections looked at before they start complaining on GGG. Maybe, sometimes in the future, they could release a boxed version of the game with real off-line mode for people that cant get hold of a stable connection. |

" And people thought it was impossible for a mmo to have a single server hosting the entire user base with concurrent peaks closing on 70k players on a single server including 5k battles. But a few years ago a hundred players was enough to crash a zone. I don't know. But GGG needs to hire very competent people. EVE guys thought it was mostly hardware and after upgrading to the best of the best, the luxury equipment for the server room, they had to admit to themselves only brain juice would fix it.
