Has anyone tried AA as a defensive mechanic? It really feels like this build's weakness is physical damage and this sounds like a neat way of mitigating some of it. Or is "less" just too bad with that little Armour?

13% less physical damage isn't going to do much. Either you keep your IC up, out-leech the damage, or you die... pretty much that simple on this build. I only found physical damage to be a problem against Uber Trio and Core Malachai.

For dangerous physical fights like the Uber Atziri trio, you have to adjust to a manual IC setup to improve your chances of not dying. Regular physical damage (any map mobs including things like beyond bosses, 99% of map bosses) is not a threat once geared well.

Just as Tackle mentions, Arctic Armor provides little benefit for the investment you make, as the 13% less physical and fire damage taken is quite weak. IC and Leeching should be your main survival mechanic against physical damage. Furthermore, there is a caveat to using AA, which is you must remain stationary to receive the damage resistance. Unfortunately, you cannot simply face tank certain end game content, like Atziri, as you must constantly move to avoid their special attacks. Also, dodging and movement is an integral part of efficient, but safe, map clearing. If you are leaping from pack to pack in maps, it is highly likely you will receive any tangible benefit from AA. Thus AA is simply not worth it in the end.

Okay, I guess I figured as much.

I'm pretty new to this build (I've been playing it for about 10 days) and it's also my first LL build. So maybe it's just the lack of routine and will take some getting used to, but I've had my fair share of troubles with high physical damage. Especially the enraged melee boss on Town Ruins and Voll on Wasteland were hard nuts to crack, one-hitting me occasionally.

My gear isn't really optimal. My jewels are shitty and I still use a Vertex for want of a better alternative. I'm running around with about 7,3k ES (7,8 with Energy from Within swapped for Clear Mind).

Does that sound alright or am I at the lower tier of survivability?

Here's my current gear, maybe someone has thoughts on that too ;)

You shouldn't try to facetank Wasteland Voll with this build, and Village Ruin boss can be tricky... if there are difficult mods on the map, it's very RIPpy.

For Voll, you want to use Lightning Strike, swap in Lightning Penetration for Discharge, and just cheeseball him from far away using Arc. Takes a while, but it's an ez mode kill.

For the pig/rooster combo on Village Ruin, you should probably skip them if there are really bad mods on the map. If you are fighting them with doable mods, get both of them down to low health, then kill the rooster, then kill the pig. Whatever you do, DON'T kill the pig first... enraged rooster is basically impossible to kill for this build.

Obviously not set in stone, but it looks like someone was able to piece together some of the changes to the passive tree in the upcoming Ascendancy patch. Again, this is all tentative so take with a grain of salt and realize things can change. Mostly Shadow and Ranger changes, but a few others by the looks of it, as well:

Right off the bat, the only discernible change I can notice is the movement of the Pain Attunement Keystone from the Top Right of the Tree to near that good Life And ES Cluster (near the Scion). In practice though, there will be no difference to the amount of points this build will require due to this change.
Yeah, pretty much what I saw, and realistically the only thing this build is really hinging on is what the Ascendancy class choices are going to be in total. If the Scion's turns out not to be good there might be some switching needing to be done with either the Witch, or even the Templar and will require some re-pathing in that case. That and if any other major mechanics get changed around, too.
4 days till we find out if our build will get screwed hypeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Time for the usual pre=patch ritualistic offerings to Chris Wilson's beard and RNGesus. May thy rainbownuke remain as meta as ever.
Indeed, let's see what Blasphemy will bring to the table and what other unannounced changes will come. :P
