Yeah, so this is great but when will we get full patch notes?

Well this is super disappointing. I thought the vaal orb would be like a chaos and you could reroll til you get the mod you want. Pretty stupid to use if you can never use currency on the item again. Seriously diminished my excitement for the new league.

This is the one thing that does seem a bit off to me.

Vaal orbs seem like they are intended for end-game items. Like trying to make a level 20 gem jump to level 21. You might get 19, you might get 21. It seems like the chance of ruining something is too great.

The problem that I am worried about though is that it was said Vaal Orbs drop about as common as Chaos Orbs. Chaos Orbs aren't that rare really, but they can get used up very quickly. Vaal Orbs on the other hand seem like something people won't use nearly as often on that risky gamble, and can only use once. It just seems like using a Vaal orb might be used as commonly as someone yolo exalting an item, but Vaal orbs are much more common, so are they just going to collect in stashes, and lose all their value?

I haven't read all the replies but I'm gonna make a guess about how vaal orbs will work.

I remember hearing that they will be pretty common(chaos orb like) so it really doesn't make sense that you'll have to eternal every time before you corrupt(and I'm pretty sure you'll not be able to use the imprint after and do that kind of stuff).
So I assume that you'll be able to spam as many vaal orbs on some item as you like. They will just randomly chose 1 of the stats on it and change it to another random stat. If you use vaal orb on corrupted item the effect of the previous corruption will be reversed first.

That's just the only thing that make sense to me but I may be totally wrong. Sure vall orbs are currencies but kinda new one.

Anyways I can't wait to be able to test some new stuff myself.

I'm really interested in looking at the new passive tree too... :D

Wtf, why are you still guessing about the orb, when they just spent the time to write up exactly how it will work?

They clearly said after you corrupt something ONCE, no other modifications can be made to it.

You can cut out the personal attacks, because they miss the point (think it through). Here's why: I don't have a character over 82, so of course I am not the kind of player who would have a shot at these items. My disagreement is with the implication and the design approach.

If I wanted one of those, I'd buy one, but that is not how I play the game. It is, however, how a good number of them will be obtained. We saw that with the 8-star t-shirts.
The vaal orb is kinda meh.. to me for some main reasons.
I can see it working on jewlery, belts and 3/4 socketed items. But for any 6 Socket item there is realy only one positive outcome.

If you get a white socket, but then cannot change the colors afterwards that actually makes it worse then better.

If you re-roll the item mods like a standard chaos orb, it definetly makes the item worse. (in 99,99% of the cases)

If you just end up corrupting the item with no other changes, you cannot change colors on it afterwards.

So basicly the only good outcome from it is adding/changing the implicit mod on the item, wich i also believe is the hardest one to get. (since its the most powerfull effect)

So i guess we will see very few good 6Linked corrupted items.
But for all the other items the orb looks awsome though. But i bet we will see alot less people doing 2 handed builds, unless they change it so u can still use chromatics on corrupted items.

Dont mean to downvote this awsome expansion though. Im totally hyped and cant wait for march 5th!

GGG marketing strategy seems to be catering to streamers crowd, who play this game as a job. It's quite sad, but still, it's easy to ignore this, unless it influences core game. Fortunately, some shining MTXes are still not part of the core game.
Anticipation slowly dissipates...

Really dude? who cares.

I care because I dislike games with limited, one-of-a-kind rewards or items. I already find legacy items to be a terrible concept, and now we get cosmetic stuff that is completely and permanently unavailable to the vast majority of the playerbase. Recolored stuff is fine, but this doesn't seem to fall in that category.

I'd have preferred a dungeon that is very hard and that you may spend months on defeating, but then everyone can obtain the reward. Most people would still never get it (just like most people never complete a level 78 map, and the dungeon will be harder), but everyone could work toward that goal if they wished. I shouldn't have to take off work for two weeks or spend 100s on a RMT site (those rare colored masks on Steam went for hundreds, so people's willingness to pay whatever it takes to get very rare cosmetic items is definitely there) to have a chance -- and neither is an option for me that I would seriously consider.

I just think the premise is flawed and shows a disregard for the playerbase as a whole and demonstrates a design approach I find unappealing. If you see that differently, it's fine. Go ahead and give them some money. I certainly won't be spending any more if they continue in this direction. If you like it, support the direction with money.

WTF?

How do you get on in real life? I can't have gold medals from Sochi, because they are one of a kind and only for the 100some human beings capable of winning olympic gold. I don't like that, not giving all the peoples the same rewards for everyone.

That is the purpose of a competition with a price. Giving it to everyone devalues it. Making it a microtransaction that CANNOT be SOLD is the only way of doing it. Forum titles (special ones), Microtransactions and news posts highlighting players. Thats unique, that's an incentive to players to do the stuff and it doe not, in ANY way, corrupt (pun intended) the game.

Oh, and just because you did not get it: They are not giving away items. They are giving microtransactions. Those can't be sold. At least that is what Chris said. Microtransactions.

You can grind for your uniques as everyone else, but you are, same as me, not a nolifer that can take 2 weeks of and compete for those prices. Get over it. You can still try to defeat the dungeon of Atziri. You just won't get a reward for it, because you will not be one of the 50 first.

Comments like this should really trigger a real life slap in the face.

They are OBVIOUSLY not going to release full patch notes until very close to the live version of the game. Why would you think differently?

They've spent all this time giving great trailers of the game, then just gave a pretty nice write-up on the new features, yet all you can reply with is some meaningless dickhead comment like that.

Yeah it's a game and this is an internet forum, but you can really tell how shitty some people must be in real life because of how they portray their own personalities like this.

So another nail to the single player coffin.

I like everything about the update, but that. Hopefully a good character will be able to solo these.

Solo play gone for good?

Given that vaal gems will probably be more effective solo, solo players are getting a good amount out of the expansion too.

It really doesn't matter what they do, as long as partying isn't straight up detrimental it will always be better than solo.

As a solo self-finder, Im trying to keep an open mind, but if the vaal skill gems are gated behind party only content, that is a big minus.

Secret Corrupted Areas

As you explore Wraeclast, you'll occasionally find Vaal-influenced secret areas that are indicated by a glowing, beating heart and swirling ribbons of blood. These corrupted areas have magical properties, similar to end-game maps, which substantially increase their difficulty. At the heart of each corrupted area is a new boss monster, guarding a chest that is guaranteed to drop a Vaal Skill Gem or Vaal Fragment. As corrupted areas require some effort to find and have mods that make them more difficult than normal, you'll often want to invite friends to help you clear the area.

Sometimes I am ashamed to be one of those who prefer solo play.

What I got from the video was: While the Vaal dungeons are more difficult(but still soloable) they don't pop up often(roughly once per hour) and as such, due to their rarity and potential rewards you might want to alert your friends so they can come and profit from it with you.
Nowhere have I read or seen anything that would indicate they are another nail in the coffin of solo play. They are a challenge to be overcome, no different then any other part of the game. Obviously more profitable in a group, but that's how this game works and something you should accept if you insist on solo play.
