Nemesis One Week Race

Jesus Christ the expectations of some gamers, this is beyond ridiculous. You want rewards for being bad at this game?! Why don't you try to figure out how to level faster, how to be better at racing and all that, then you deserve your meaningless pixel rewards. Not the other way around.

A fucking generation of gamers that need a pop-up that says

Heey, congratulations! You're the best! Here are 5 billion imaginary worthnothingpoints, so you don't actually have to play this game (fuck that right?) and *gasp* invest time into it!

upon installing a game.

GGG even catered to the players and made this a 1week Nemesis race with Domination mods and ALL your precious achievements will count towards the 4 month leagues. Why the fuck are you people still complaining? Prizes, really? And to the guys calling for solo races cause otherwise the "elite" will always win, you wouldn't be able to win anything in a solo race either cause you refuse to get better or invest sufficient time and rather whine on forums all day. And don't give me "I can't no-life like these losers, I have a life!!" If you can't invest the time you won't reap the rewards, welcome to any fucking activity ever. Please point me to the guy who became a doctor within 3 months, I'd like to see that.

This constant craving for instant gratification despite doing a lousy job at it is complete madness.

It always amazes me when some mouth frothing fanboy can take a reasonable expectation for sensible rewards, and transform it into an imaginary expectation of something for nothing.

Not one single person is asking for that. You have literally created a request, and are attacking people for that imaginary creation. What on earth could you possibly achieve in making up stuff to attack?

It's the new instant gratification generation of gamers. Can't do anything except ignore them. Multilayer games have been getting dumber and dumber (look at wow, diablo 3, etc), these players expect to be handed everything on a platter without trying.

It's in fact not at all like this.
A 1 week race with prices for top 40 and nothing(!) for nobody else is just plain dumb. From everyones perspective.

I can put up maybe 1-3 hours of playtime a day. I would really like to participate in a one week race if there were some interim - earn prices as you level up goals. I -know- I will not be able to place in top 40 even if I were super ultra good at playing PoE. The time investment is simply too high. A lot of people are in the same position as I am. I would never suggest to provide everyone with the same price for starting the week race, but having scaling rewards based on level reached, time to accomplish different quests, and etc would NOT take away anything from the 40 best people and would only add to the player experience of the total number of participants.

GGG you have my deepest gratitude for pushing this week race one day back. I made a post about it on general, and it got almost no responses. But i am secretly hoping somebody from GGG gave it a read and agreed you would lose a lot of public by starting the race during the festivities.

I don't really care about the prices, i just wanted to participate in this race with both nem/dom mods from day one, to get that epic rush adrenaline that i always get from a one week race start.

Thank you very much for allowing a lot of players to participate in day one of the week race!

Peace

Couldn't resist posting as I'm one of those people who are very bad at racing (i.e. not even getting to 6th level when top racers are past 20th quite a lot of time). And quite opposite to what I read in the thread as being a view of non top-tier players, I'm extremely happy with this mini-league.

I understand most people see what is good about it anyway, but just for the sake of bringing in something positive to the table, I'd still like to reiterate.

* a fresh opportunity to try out a new character build
* you still feel pressure - it's a ladder after all - and must act quickly, but at the same time there's plenty of time and a viable option of investing more time, especially since it's holidays
* the race runs 24h a day, so there are no schedule constraints - one can pause any time they want, and still catch up
* nemesis mobs charged with shrines - something we are yet to experience, but may turn out cool
* no matter how you perform in the end the drops carry over to nemesis if you survive - great for people like me who enjoy playing main leagues co-op in a closed group and have active nemesis chars
* the same is true for the chars - a cool build is always nice to keep instead of seeing it go into the void
* even though it's a separate event that needs time investment you are not forsaking playing against the challenges of the main leagues if that's important for you

These are just a few nice points I can see as a non-competitive player.

As for the prizes, I think that laying out a prize structure for an event that runs for a week and has thousands of participants is not that easy. E.g. for me it's completely unclear why it should be top 20 or top 40 or top whatever-other number, but I believe that somebody like GGG can leverage ladder and race statistics available and make an educated and balanced decision.

To people who - so it seems - complain about not being able to get into top 40 I've got a simple question:
"
Is my perception right that you feel confident about the tier you end up in as the league ends (e.g. top 60, top 100, top 150 - whatever) and thus are sure that had GGG arranged for prizes to be given to that tier (e.g. - just from the top of my head - Kaon's Sign to top 150) you'd be definitely getting something?

What would be interesting would be some races for beginners, i.e. the mere mortals who try to race and gasp at how quickly the elite get to level 20, when you are still level 6.

Given that GG have all the details of people's previous season's they could arrange races where,
- They haven't finished top 10 before
- They haven't scored over a certain number of points in previous ladders

etc.

You get my drift, if GGG can reward the elite then reward the mortals too :)

I can't speak to PvP type races - but regarding the racing season we're currently in, the races are fine for beginners and advanced - and both players get rewarded. I doubt there are many people that have participated in the races that have walked away with less than 2 to 3 uniques.
Hello.

I am forming a party for the One Week Race which begins Wednesday January 1st, 2013 at 6:00pm est. There are currently four open slots in this party. This party is being put together so players can progress as a group throughout the first few days of the race into maps.

To be considered for this party you must be able to do the following.

1) Prove your experience in races or general play on poestatistics.com
2) Be able to play for extended periods of time, especially during the beginning of the race
3) Follow instruction and communication as the party will have a plan setup prior to the beginning of the race

If you are interested in joining please PM me on the site or post a message in this thread. Do not PM me in game please. I will not be able to respond to you in game.

Thanks.
NICE

will Domination-specific uniques be dropping here?

Can I get a solid answer to this? You've filled 13 pages of empty whine, but this might be one of the most important aspects of the race.

It is a nemesis parented league, so i think not. Main reason to this must be that dead chars could bring domination uniques to standard too soon and alive chars, after the race, could bring the items in nemesis... Imagine the prices of some of dom items if in the end of nemesis league they reach hardcore league.
Just my thought..
