Totally agree. That's one of the very few things D3 got right.

Sad that games these days still use names as unique identifiers, or don't allow spaces (which I assume from other posts to be the case).

The name I want, I won't get. There's probably someone every four seconds trying to get it even though it's likely been taken since the beginning of beta. But I should get it, based on the fact that the reputation that comes with it was earned by me in the biggest NA mmo there is. I am that guy, no one else who wears it can say that.

When I can't get that name, I try to get others, and it always fails. I like short names that aren't gibberish, and either can be my real first name, a nickname I'm fond of, or one of several I've come up with in the past that I think roll off the tongue nicely. But they are always taken.

I know plenty of people don't mind their stupid sounding compoundWord names, or completely made up gibberish sounding names, but other people do. I'm not against like some supporters, like those who spent 50 bucks to get to claim names ahead of time, but free beta players and 10 dollar packs shouldn't imo.

I agree that it would be better if we used a system similar to Diablo III; just identify players by their account names and don't worry about uniqueness for character names.

Providing the person who took that name actually plays anymore. Not reliable and will lead to extortion and name squatting even more.
