Might there be a way of putting through holiday-specific items in a separate update in the future so potential sales aren't jeopardized if a patch has to be delayed?

I'm happy it is delayed. That means they are taking extra time and caution. The same people who bitch about testing and shit are probably the same people bitching about the delay on here. It wouldn't surprise me if that was true, at all.

What was the party debacle? That we didn't cancel our annual Christmas party that occured after hours? I had no idea that people were angry at lack of communication because I was still working to our deployment timeline that we mentioned yesterday (i.e. during our Friday workday).
