Death Penalty Changes in 0.11.3

People really need to stop staying "GO PLAY HARDCORE THEN!"

You do realize there's a happy medium right?

Hardcore and softcore already play differently, but people in softcore still take dying quite seriously and that makes the league play well.

Some people don't have the stomach for hardcore's penalty, but they still deserve to play in a league where people play properly and life and death matters.

So you can't ruin softcore and then just tell everyone that objects "GO PLAY HARDCORE THEN!"
Love the changes! I only have limited time to play and having an entire session wiped out due to a desync or lag spike was terribly frustrating. This is a very positive step for people like me who love the game but just don't have the time that others do. A wife, 2 kids and dog can be a lot on your time. I play PoE for fun, not for frustration.

Thank you GGG for allowing us softcore players to keep enjoying the game but not ruining the experience for the hardcore gamer who still have huge challenges with the Hardcore and Onslaught leagues.

You guys really do listen and understand that many of us just don't have the time and I truly appreciate the respect you show to all of your players =)
Thank god, merciless's death penalty was so harsh. I play softcore because I like playing high-risk, high-reward type characters, and losing hours worth of progress due to desync issues, a random lag spike or disconnect, or making an error is just awful. At least this cuts the penalty of that problem in half.

I don't see any reason why a casual gamer can't go for a games hardcore mode.
Playing hardcore does not mean, that you play 24/7, but that you relevel your Char, if you suck or your build sucks!
Don't wear your fancy and expensive loot if you see a good Chance in dying and you will have less loses from it!
Someday you will be experienced enough that you go high level in HC with a nice equipped toon, as you had many toons to farm for that one before.

I wouldn't play HC if my stash was deleted. I'm to casual for that, sorry!

So - alternatives to an xp penalty, just to throw them out there:

Someone suggested a gravestone, one at a time, that you could get to to reclaim Xp. That sounds fun.

You could have "Rez sickness", mostly stolen from wow, where for 10 realtime minutes your damage/defense is nerfed. Play conservatively (ie no boss flailing), or go get a sandwich.

I suggested earlier disallowing tp usage immediately after death, again just to stop boss flailing.

I'd suggest those who play hardcore and look down on teh sc carebears remember this isn't really applying to you; leave the softcore play to the softcore players.

Fwiw - I can see room for a game mode somewhere between "little or no death penalty" and "permadeath plus item loss". I don't know what that would be...
I think people are wrong when they complain dat EXP loss is too high. The problem is that most of the times they reach a point were they die ALOT because it's really hard to find good gear and play alone.
I'm currently doing better on my hardcore char than on softcore ones just because I was lucky enough to find good gear and play in party there. My softcore chars will stay unplayable even with this change.

In POE you can die soooo easy and fast, + not all ppl play with BEST OF THE BEST items and most players just new starts, its new and hard for them, even if they come Merciless!

Good Job GGG! I will vote for 5-7% on Merciless, but 8% somehow hight/mid, but better then was before.

Great job! Hurray for that fix and help players!

im so tierd of alt F4 kings going on and on about "softcore" this and that ..bla bla bla..until there is a timeer on logout in a map or instance any argument about ppl playng in normal or anarchy is nule and void.
is a game its suposed to offer a chalange but be enertainig in the same time...u can play hardcore and have ur chalange or u can play normal and have a greater build diversity and more fun in the few hours u have left afer o long day at work.
being elitist about somthing dont make u special ...refusing to see problems from other ppls perpective is stupid..if i like red and u like blue as long as we have the option to stick with wath we like i dont see any problems. so all in all i sugest to realy reflect about imposing ur tastes on other ppl and welcomme any adition to the game as long as is not imposed but offerd as option.
