Death Penalty Changes in 0.11.3

Disable Alt+F4 skill for HC chars :)
Lot of QQ about the changes.

Regarding loot, there is nothing stopping you starting your own public party with FFA loot. If you are the only person in the game that wants to play like that then the entire game shouldn't be balanced around you, if other people want to play FFA they will join your group and you can have no allocation on anything.

Regarding death penalty, I liked it, I didnt want it changed. But Im not the only one playing this game either, a lot of people who argue to keep death penalty hard are usually hardcore players who dont play default/anarchy. A lot of real softcore players were crying about it, and considering how many deaths come from sync issues theres no denying they had a valid reason to be upset on many occasions.

The time sinks in this game are currently so vast that even the no lifer all day grinders are giving honest feedback saying this is cumulatively too much. Personally I think they should have attacked other areas, trivial boss farming for orbs to maze your maps and link your gear is just shit, that doesnt bring anything to the game experience but tedious, demoralising 'work' that involves running lvl89 characters with high mf in zones 25 lvls below them just facerolling everything for days on end. Death penalty does bring something, but only when its a real death, and I think we have to accept that a lot of deaths arnt real deaths and not everyone playing this game is as full on as some of us here.

Just live with it guys, its not a big deal, GGG are monitoring play behaviour and will make changes if its trivialising the game. 8% is still a lot at high levels, my marauder isnt even 90 yet but Ive given up levelling him due to the time sink involved in rolling maze on every map with chaos, and I know for sure I can run both levels of lunaris including killing kole and piety without getting a single % of xp, if I die once that could be 16, maybe even 20 such runs even at 8%. No one is going to be getting into the mid 90s if they die with any sort of regularity, for 95%+ of players getting into the mid 90s is already completely impossible because you have to buy your xp with chaos and every 30 minutes play costs more than you find in a week, I wouldnt worry about ladders getting over run with scrubs.

But its good to see the dev really care about players feedback.

This. I also like that they don't just automatically give in to what people want though, but instead take the time to carefully analyze things and try to decide what is REALLY best for the game based on that feedback and their own knowledge of the game and statistics they have about how it's being played.

Here's my suggestion:

Permadeath on normal, -5 level penalty on cruel, -1 level penalty on merciless. Disabled creation of standard league characters. Only way to "get" to standard is dieing on cruel or merciless.
I like the changes, especially the 6s one. I don't always play PA groups but when I do, I do it for a reason.

3% in cruel is nothing, that's gonna get changed, no doubt. 8% is something once you are over 70; until then, however, it's too low.
Maybe there should be a special penalty tuned for maps.

the death penalty in this game is the main reason why all of my friends that got me into this game - are now playing other games.

theres a hardcore league for people that want that game play style, but playing softcore, as if it was hardcore, doesn't make sense, and forcing softcore players to play with rules that hardcore players deem fair, doesn't make sense at all.

there is a large amount of people that really do just want to log in with a few friends, chat in vent, chill out, gain a few items, level, and have some fun - with no care in the world for what is going on in races, hardcore, with kripp, or anyone else, for their own enjoyment. forcing people to play by some weird rule set, is a fast way to lose peoples interest.

you guys are doing amazing on HC, but softcore players tend to just get pushed out of this game fast.
literally - not one friend I started this game with, is playing today.
they all got tired of the grinded - then being pushed back hours of progression cause of desync, 1 shot mobs, builds that end up being useless, ect.

its a total head in the sand thing, to ignore the casual crowd, cause no game lasts without a good number of people playing it.

you guys do amazing for the HC types, but are still kicking the casual types in the teeth for even wanting to play.

Good to see hardcore players bitching about a league that has got nothing to do with them.

+1
Too much bitching from people who are not supposed to bitch, especially not about stuff that does not concern their game.

I mostly play HC and always strive to not die. But for the times I play on SC I welcome the decision to relax the XP loss.
When night falls
She cloaks the world
In impenetrable darkness
Sucks!
Strong dislike!

Death should always be avoided. And there should be a severe penalty, even in Softcore.

Inb4 corspe hopping like in early D3...
GGG - what youre doing in the last weeks. -.-

Not fixing things, that need to be fixed. And "fixing" things that are fine!
Losing faith...

An occasional death at high levels should not fully negate the time and effort put into playing that entire day. I appreciate this change to XP, as it softens the lost time investment for high level characters. I believe in your concept of multiple leagues for differing play-style commitments.

PoE is one of the only games today catered towards more hardcore gamers. I really hope GGG doesn't change their attitude too much and try to appeal to a more casual playerbase. I don't have anything against more casual gamers. Theres tons of other games out there to choose from.
