Death Penalty Changes in 0.11.3

What about increasing the penalty each death if its within a set time, say when you die to a mob the first penalty would be 3% in Cruel and 8% in Merciless; then if you die again within the next 3-5mins? it goes up to 6% in Cruel and 12% in Merciless or scales up however you think.
You could scale it up to a point where it would make no sense to try this tactic.

Personally i think it was reasonable at 7.5% in Cruel and 15% in Merciless. If you are dying that quick you really should go back and farm for gear or whatever anyway or revise your build to survive a little better.

Another way would be to have a higher % penalty the higher your level is?

this is just dumb GGG. you keep making the game easier because a bunch of children cant use their brain and make a build like the hardcore players do. what a laugh... another reason for not coming back to poe where you make it more scrub-friendly.

this is why we cant have nice things. because of the stupid kids

I'll join the "death penalty shouldn't be that low" crowd... I really like the new anarchy league, since i love the idea of the rogue exiles and with a hard death penalty death is still punished hard enough that i got an almost HC feeling in near death situations.

But that feeling came only in merciless - the old cruel penalty which isn't much lower than the new merciless one doesn't even get close to that...
I personally dislike the change, since at least for me it'll reduce the satisfaction of making a working build in anarchy/default.

IF you really want to reduce the penalty keep it at least on 5%/10% IMHO.

Default league was never meant to be hardcore-like. This is the point many people are missing. I see many people who are against it wants some kind of hardcore experience but not actually HC league. This wasn't what Standard league was supposed to be. Standard is not a psudo-hardcore league.

Standard was always meant for the more casual crowd. The hardcore players cannot selfishly wants the league to suit to their own need. Anyone who wants a hardcore experience have to go to HC.

If you want to have a new league in between HC and Standard, fine. But don't expect Standard to be that in-between.

TBH i would appreciate a pseudo HC league - harsh death penalty, but still keeing your char, so i support such an idea ;)

Great Change. Anything that make game less frustrating and lees a chore is a great and welcome change.

No matter how some ppolz wants to lie about this - losing HOURS or even days of progress because desync, misclick, phone ringing, child start to cry, water boiling or whatever other thing that happens to real ppl that are not basement dwellers and have any life besides this game is not fun.

So thx for this and remember that you have shitload of players that are welcome that kind of changes (making game more playable but without nerfing too much - challenge must stay).
There is still Hardcore MOde for masochists and nolifers.

Go play it so called 'hardcores' and dont act like its only game for you.

Thx GGG.

Point is, this game is meant to be hardcore, which is pretty much the opposite to "casual", go figure ;)

It's not meant to be HC, but it's not meant to be D3 either. And nerfing things like this is a slippery slope.

And as entropus said, the devs have always wanted to make an "hardcore" arpg.

I don't see how it could be comparable to D3 because the distinction between PoE and D3 wasn't about death penalty. It has more to do with the game system which is equal across all league.

Death penalty is about two different approach to that same game system. Irrespective of what games we're talking about, there will be two crowd of players, one where they strive for perfection and that's what the Hardcore leagues in these games are for.

The other crowd is a more casual approach in the sense that they want to experience the deep and complex game mechanic, but it doesn't have to be punishing. Death penalty doesn't add anything to the depth of a game. (It's just like a game maker make a hard mode by simply making the AI enemies godlike. That merely makes the game punishing. Not everyone plays a video game to be punished.)

Path of Exile wasn't distinguished from the rest because of how punishing death is. It's different because of how deep the game system is.

I have a lot of respect for hardcore players. But I'm sure everyone will agree that not all players have the skills hardcore players have. Harsh exp penalty only serve to limit the progress of players who are not good enough to stay alive the same way hardcore players do. Standard league is to allow them to progress without HC skills.

Don't punish these players by limiting their ability to progress.
I personally think this is good, especially considering that most deaths are desync related and one shouldn't be penalizied so heavily on Merciless for technical game issues... Those who don't like it should stick with HC and leave it at that.

as long as ggg keeps making money, and in turn making a better game, i don't care what they to do the softcores. <3 u ggg. (just please dont go making these kind of changes in hc) :D
But even GGG has to pay their bills...

As Hornet85 and Sony_Black and I proposed, just make a third league as a compromise between casuals and "not-so-but-almost-hardcore" players. The first with little or no death penalty, the latter with really harsh death penalty - win/win
