Australian Test Gateway Feedback (Updated)
Played quite a lot today. Base ping is good but experiencing common spikes and desyncs similar to a bad day on the American gateway.
Seven deadly sins, seven ways to win, seven holy paths to hell, and your trip begins.

Testing again from home this time:
Auckland, NZ, Telecom, wireless router ADSL connection averaging 60-110 ping, with spikes coming every one or two minutes, some of which cause de-syncing. Very good really, as the spikes are most probably due to heavy server load. |
|
Logged on for the first time in a while to test out this gateway.
From WA, I'm getting around 70-80 ping, with random spikes reaching about 1200. It does feel a lot better, but I can't help but feel I'm desyncing a lot more than if I was playing on other gateways. Luckily the desyncs aren't as long as usual, it just seems there are a lot more of them. |
|
Out of curiosity i tried from italy. The ping is <1% higher than on Singapore (3/4ms difference), that's VERY good!

That constant 10ms ping :D

Something I have noticed is I get the occasional desync from a 500-900 spike, but that was not a common occurrence.
When I got the in game freeze like pauses, I was checking ping in F1 and it was not going up, it would remain 15-25. Overall it's very nice, just while I am in the 1 month race, those small 1-2 second pauses scare me a bit. 0 PC [192.168.1.1] 1 home.gateway [192.168.1.254] 2 10.20.21.123 3 202.7.173.145 4 syd-sot-ken-crt2-ge-0-0-0.tpgi.com.au [202.7.171.97] 5 syd-sot-ken2-crt1-ge-1-0-0.tpgi.com.au [203.29.135.201] 6 syd-sot-ken2-crt1-ge-1-0-0.tpgi.com.au [203.29.135.201] 7 p56106.syd.equinix.com [202.167.228.43] 8 119.252.190.195 Computing statistics for 200 seconds... Also noticing 1-2 second pauses every minute or so while playing on this gateway. Ping monitored via F1 doesn't fluctuate during these resyncs. In game ping did spike occasionally from 49-51ms up to anywhere from 150ms to almost one second.
(LOL! Draft out of sync :p) Pathping results (that last hop can be a doozy!) Run 1

The route to the Australian gateway, for me, is via tinet, as opposed to softlayer who are responsible for the others. Interestingly, there's no packet loss and minimal jitter, it's just a shame, that for me - I'm not in Australasia - the latency is probably too high to be playable.

80-100ms on average in Dunedin. Compared to 250-300ms on America/Singapore, this is amazing!
" This is also happening to me. |

Auckland NZ, within 50 meters of exchange running ADSL 2+ / Orcon with only 1 computer on the connection.
In town I'm getting 30-50 ms ping, in zones I am getting 100-200, and then occasionally down to 50-80. I am also experiencing these 1-2 second game lags where the game freezes, but the netgraph does not register a spike. It has been dangerous as I play HC and thusly I have not been doing a whole lot this evening. IGN: Asgarin, WithEasy, Hi_Im_Octavius, Of_Sanctuary
