Balance is in a rough spot atm for skills, some are not doing great right now. This definitely hurts build diversity, but I'd assume we're gonna see some shifts in that as time goes by. THere hasn't been any real major patches at this point, just hotfixes. Not saying that to excuse it, but more to say that they're gonna probably adjust skills once they actually get the data and feedback.
Balance is not hard at all. Gem = 80% Physical > Gem = 15% Physical (4 Projectiles)
I made a mercenary last night. The crossbow skills were super fun and quite effective. Until about 2/3rds through Act 1. Then I was forced to rely on Gas Grenade and I didn't like the gameplay at all. Crossbow skills fell off QUICK. I gave up that alt and made a ranger. It's much more fun and actually scales better with satisfying combos.

you sure your weapon didnt fall off?
my mrs is playing a merc in our party and shes absolutely carrying with insane damage. she has no idea what shes doing, never really played poe1, has limited diablo 3 experience. shes a WoW player usually. shes made up her build herself as shes gone along.

I've tried merc and ranger. I'm still in the beginning so haven't seen much difference between them yet. I use bow, xbow, and elemental magic. Decent magic xbow, rare socketed bow. Flame wall, ice shotgun, lightning arrow, and the back jump freeze move.
Will it fall off when I get further into the game? Maybe. Won't know till I get there. I expect things to be unbalanced though because the early access just launched. Post what's not working and hopefully it gets addressed.
It has only been a week, from what they have done so far it looks like they are interested in keeping things balanced.
I would just be patient and let them know what to look at closer.
Sorry but when the response to valid criticism is "mad cuz bad" then yes people need to shut the fuck up.
lacking skill in a video game is a valid argument, even when crudely stated. you can be mad about it all you want and no one should tell you to 'shut the fuck up'.
thing is we ALL lack skill in poe2 right now, right?
ive been in poe1 since 2013, i played 20k hours. how many times have i seen someone successfully play a 1h mace ground slam block marauder?
i dont think ive ever seen someone doing it. im sure if i go put on some mirrored gear in standard i could make it work.
if i start poe1 right now, new league, as a new player who has never played poe1 before and i go 1h mace groundslam marauder self found from nothing, day 1, how hard is the game gonna be?
we dont know anything yet. if you just look at poe1 a 1h mace groundslam marauder, that should work right? why wouldnt that work?
check this out. have you guys ever seen such a thing? i own this item. how many times have you guys seen a mirror tier 1h phys mace? how many people with mirror tier builds u seen rocking a 1h mace?
you seen daggers right? loath bane, honour etcher, you seen claws, thrusting swords, 2h swords, you seen 2h noncrit axes, youve even seen an occasional 1h axe. you ever seen someone playing with a mace like this?
we do not know what works and what doesnt yet in poe2, and what does work now is gonna be so different a month from now when weve seen multiple balance patches. entire game mechanics could be torn up and rewritten before launch. were all clueless idiots on poe2 atm, the smartest guys in the game at best are beginning to understand maybe 2 or 3 builds out of potentially 100s.
You only posted this to flex about some scepter you own lmao

The thing is, "This early access game has no build diversity, I will uninstall, have seen enough" is not valid criticism. Telling people who point that out to shut up, is also not valid criticism.
Sure someone can be happy with the state of the game or unhappy. But it still depends on how you word it. If someone would say something like "Even though there are quite a number of skills in the game, some seem to be over tuned, like x, y and z, while others seem to be lacking power like a, b and c.". This would be constructive feedback.
Where I am from we have a saying that means something like, you will receive the same tone/speech as you use with others. If I feel trolled by a whiny post, I am more likely to be trolling as well, as I would with a constructive post. Not even on purpose, it just happens.
But to be a bit constructive. This is still early access. GGG has proven over the many years that they know what they are doing. There will be balance patches. They will improve the weaker skills and there will be nerfs to clear over performing outliers. They just can't do everything within one week. They need a bit of time. This is a lot of work.
Half the player base responds to complaints with "everything's fine. You're just a whiner."
It's absolutely infuriating. I have close to a thousand hours in Path of Exile 1 so I have a pretty good idea how to build a character. It took me 60 hours to get through act 3 normal and I got so much fucking condescension saying that I'm just bad at the game.
Nope. It's because I tried to figure out my own build and it wasn't the cookie cutter bullshit the devs are forcing on us. That's it. I actually tried to experiment like you're supposed to during a fucking beta, and when I offered feedback on it I was buried with insults.
You know what that doesn't do? It doesn't make me want to fucking keep testing.
The mod team seriously needs to crack down on the condescension and elitism, because it is driving away the people who actually provide useful feedback.
Ahh yes, the cry for censorship of opposing opinions. The classic tactic of small minded, insecure people to in turn be able to bully people under the guise of being a victim.
Tell me more good sir. Preferably with a few more F bombs, they really accentuate all of the truly enlightening points you made.

I agree with this. There is valuable points on both sides but so many posts have some points but tie it together with, "If you're getting one shot, it's a skill issue, you suck, you're a baby, go play F4." Or "The people that think the game is too easy are idiotic morons and."
It's like at least 80-85% of the people on these forums don't know how to actually have a real conversation. It's insults, it's condescending, it'ss rude.
People need to remember life is bigger than the next big game. Path of Exile 2 isn't going to fulfill anything in your life. It's a game. Some people put set too much expectations and hope on video games I believe.
