Peak time Concurrents down by 39k in a single day - GJ GGG
" imagine there actually is easily accessible data for this ... at December 9th the Steam registered peak concurrent players of 578569 at 19:50 UTC at December 13th the Steam registered peak concurrent players of 450993 at 21:00 UTC then apply simple elementary school mathematics to see that in mere 4 days time the game lost 22.05% of its peak concurrent players but ill give you that it want 10% loss in single day, the peak yesterday was just delayed by 2 hours against every other day before and was "just 5%" anyway if you look at the charts for lets say an Elden ring - a single player game in a "lets make players suffer" genre that peaked at slightly less than double the peak concurrents it tells a story here ER took 3 days of initial growth to reach its first peak just like PoE2 did then dipped by 10% and held steady for 4 days before reaching new peak, followed by slight dip and then steady for about 2 weeks until it dipped to -20% of its peak thats a SINGLE PLAYER GAME that had better retention than this supposedly live service MMO-lite where one would expect a GROWTH in a first few weeks not immediate downward spiral so far the chart looks like a copy of a New World - great launch followed by immediate downfall that had 50% of playerbase leave in 10 days 30% left within a month and 15% left by the month 2 ... if you think thats a healthy course to follow ... " thats NOT the win you think it is ... if you think about it you yourself present the reason why its BAD ... yes people play more on weekends - which explains why peak concurrents was delayed by hour and a half than it was on weekdays and YET its still only reached barely peak concurrents of day before ... that is BAD not good |

" it started with 550k and now is at 310k... It's way better than I though, I really though it would drop to 100k after such a bad start. Anyways, there's the weekend, maybe it'll go to 400kish. |

" i would expect tomorrow slight rise maybe +- steady at Saturday then hard crash down at Monday. Influx of weekend warriors will keep the chart steady then we shall see when the dust settles at the start of the week which once again is expected behavior of a single player game |

Seems fine to me. You would expect some drop off over time. | |
" it didnt lose 10% of its playerbase, thats now how concurrent numbers work. on day 1 a lot of people turn up at the exact same time for launch and through the day. they made plans to be there that day, put everything else off. by day 7 a lot of people are into the normal groove of maybe i play today, maybe i go out for drinks with my friends and play tomorrow, maybe tomorrow ive got a family dinner or a wedding or im going to the cinema to see a film and ill play again in a few days. losing concurrent players compared to launch doesnt mean you have lost those players, it just means they are becoming normal players who play some days and not others rather than making sure they turned up at the same time for launch. " you mean poe1, the most successful long term player count arpg that has ever existed? a game that grew its player count every year for 12 years? oh no, oh please dont let poe2 go the way of poe1, oh no that would be so terrible. oh ggg please, give in to these peoples demands right now before such a dire fate befalls the new game! i think you guys should just make a point and stand behind it as 1 guy making a point rather than trying and failing to use numbers to add some kind of weight to it. if you got something worth saying then it will stand just being what it is, your personal take. youre enough, you dont need a fantasy army of deserters whos support for your takes you are assuming. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

"The game doesn't go in the direction I want so I'm going to cry and spew all sort of BS"
-OP This is essentially what this thread is all about. |

Oh Jesus we're already circle jerking about player counts? You people are something else. No one's forcing you to be here and play the game, go play something else if you're so damn miserable

" yes you are right as it stands it lost 22% of maximum concurrents in just mere 4 days. and yes thats how this works, concurrents are the best metric for a "live service" game health. game like this needs people to keep playing (and paying) to be successful, but as it is now this project bleeds player retention worse than SINGLE PLAYER GAMES " again not how MMO-lite genre game can afford this to function - the way this is going its worse retention than leagues, yknow small bits of fresh content that tend to keep most initial engagement for about two weeks then start winding down ... well this is NOT one of those, this is brand new project that should have kept people engaged for FAR longer before going down, instead it immediatelly after hitting peak in just three days started bleeding players which is NOT good for something that should have been going UP since launch not down ... it means more people are leaving than newcomers ... " again this genre lives or dies on amount of players that will stick around LONG TERM playing EVERY DAY ... as f2p model its unsustainable on casual andies that tune out in less than a week after the game goes live... in this genre players themselves ARE CONTENT " yes PoE1 that perfected formula for player retention that can keep people interested in playing every day for weeks if not months with each league ... THE problem here is that they are going against that with every decision they make so far catering to small fraction of the playerbase that cant sustain the model long term and alienating the core of loyal fans they cultivated for years now ... |
