Two things, first you're assuming the present (shitty) ground loot situation is the ideal, or that I think its ideal (very much not the case).

And second you're supposing that GGG intends a very high end gear standard to beat the game. Neither of these are the case IMO.

Well I can't blame you for not knowing this but that Mcdonalds analogy is my favorite go to, that I've used and reused for many years on this forum; (even multiple times in the last week). Plenty of bad games sell well, just look at D4.

Thats not to say I wont look at popularity as a metric of anything (quality can cause popularity, but popularity doesn't reverse cause quality. D4 sold tons of copies its got a huge installed base... yet it's seasons die in 2 days:

Because it lacks quality game design aka "vision"

Against all odds, the game is balanced around SSF... If you'd not trade, you'd find upgrades every now and then. See the guy who was first to defeat difficulty 4 arbiter in HC SSF, he had a lot better gear then what I had in trade league after 3 weeks.

maybe the real friends we made along the way was the sense of community from the humans we see in towns, trades and global chat. the awareness of other human beings that share and reinforce the illusion of value attached to these pixels we farm.







that and the actual friends we made, for those of us who have friends i guess. i was actually engaged to a woman i met playing poe for a good 5 years or so there somewhere in the mix. i met her through a friend in a guild i joined from making a trade with a different dude.
