POE 2 HAS A MAJOR LOOT ISSUE FOR SOME PLAYERS
Agreed. And it's not any better at endgame. And what is worse is the awful, non existent, demoralizing crafting system

I think a major problem is that base amount of item drops (particularly rarity, quantity is fine) is very poor, and the effect of increased rarity of items found might be a bit too high. From all that I've heard, and generally from what I've experienced, is that it makes a tremendous difference in the loot, and it ends up creating a balance issue both in terms of new characters vs established ones, and melee vs ranged, when there is already an imbalance to begin with.
People already established with good gear and wealth can afford to shift more modifiers on their gear to increased item rarity because their defensive modifiers are higher rolls. So in effect it creates a sort of exponential scaling in the quality of loot that they get, the rich already get richer by doing higher tier stuff but now they're increasingly stacking rarity on their gear which compounds that bonus. For melee vs ranged, ranged of course already has advantage in avoiding damage and killing everything before it can pose a threat, and with item rarity modifiers they have a worthwhile alternative to defensive modifiers that they don't need as much so can stack more of it on their gear than melee can get away with. I like increased item rarity as a modifier, I think there should be more worthwhile modifiers for gear, and the risk vs reward aspect of trying to fit more on your gear is interesting, I'm just not sure the base amount and scaling is quite right. I'm sure they're looking at it though, they've already adjusted drops at least once. Last edited by Millor#4802 on Dec 22, 2024, 10:24:20 PM

" Alright, now that I know that it's a "trade first" kind of game, I'll keep my pockets full and browse the site. But it begs the question of why have the SSF mode then, unless if the drops are more balanced there ( which by the looks of it while reading posts they're not :D ). Also to be frank, if there was an in-game AH that we could easily browse for prices etc of items ( WoW-like thing ) then it would make sense. For whatever is worth as I believe more people are in the same shoes, for a new player like me where I have 0 idea on what the drops I have are worth to make some currency in return at least (the whole affix system in general still makes 0 sense at the moment to me), I'm not gonna spend 2 hours on a site trying to research alt-tabbing game-chrome-game-chrome all the time... it's just annoying so I just scrape everything and I'm just a "buyer" in regards to how trading goes, so I still heavily rely on what I can find on the ground, which currently isn't optimal. In terms of rarity on gear, I do have 1 ring with 26% rarity on it since I was 50ish level and I've been using it ever since as I haven't found anything else usable tbh. I guess 26% isn't enough though and when we're already losing our brains on how to get more resistances, adding silly-willy affixes like this is just mental imho. |

I think the reason people like bosses so much is because the bad gear you're saddled with by the extremely poor drop rate and crafting system is paradoxically less of a problem for them. You can just dodge the mechanics for a bit longer if your dps is bad or if you don't have good defenses. Compare that to trash mobs, where there's not much to dodge. You have to delete them before they delete you. If you have a bad weapon, that is hard. If you have bad defenses, it's hard to stay alive before you can hit them. If you've got bad both, the trash is oppressive.
All of this can be fixed with a few changes: * artificers orbs must be way way way way more common than they are or just removed entirely in favor of a gold cost or something. the rune system is useless if I can't supplement my lousy gear with them in a pinch. maybe salvaging slot gear can give more shards or something, I don't know. * regal orbs must be way more common than they are. The reason regals had to be kinda rare in PoE1 was that you could just alt spam until you got the two mods you wanted and then slam it into rare. Without alts I think regals are allowed to be more common. * quality currency. MORE OR BETTER PLEASE. I certainly don't want the deluge of scraps and whetstones that you would get in PoE1. I think making them more effective at lower levels would go a long way to turning the many sidegrades I get into slight upgrades. * buff vendors. When I level up with my bow character and the vendor gains _no new bows_... that really sucks! Just give the vendors more pages and always generate at least one of each base type or something. Or maybe you can strike a deal with vendors to look for specific types of items for you. That might be a neat mechanic. basically, there's tons of bad loot and very little good loot. We need more power to turn bad loot into mediocre loot. I don't want a headhunter in every slot!!! I just want a god damn weapon upgrade with an ilvl within 15 levels of mine!!! |

"This game has no crafting system! Crafting is deterministic. You use certain resources and you get a certain outcome. ALWAYS! Skyrim has crafting. You have Iron and Leather, then you can craft an iron dagger! All you need for that is the resources. There is no RNG in ANY part of the crafting in Skyrim. POE 2 has a lottery. |

" LOL I have ran hundreds of maps, almost finished the quests (2 left) and have yet to get a divine or a perfect jeweler. in my view, you were really lucky lol |

" Congrats, rng was kind to you, just because you go lucky with your loot drops doesnt mean it must be perfect for literally every other player in existence, and then for you to try and perceive that luck as some for a skill or you being a "better player" is laughable at best. Im in Act 2 Cruel and despite repeatedly full clearing maps repeatedly im still using gear from level 20 and 30, this game is rng based, you just got lucky. |

I have over 14d of in-game played time and I can definitely agree with this, I have done hundreds of t15/t16 maps at this point and the biggest glaring issue is that 98% of the loot I pick up is just bad, you either get extremely low rolls or are missing the "meta" rolls like +x to all skills, which essentially makes your item useless, the only way to get semi-good gear is to manually craft white items yourself, which I don't think is how it should be for a game that's meant to be about looting.
I've had maps where I have so much loot on the ground I literally can't see the screen and even then you won't find good rare items. I think one of the biggest contributors for loot (weapons) being considered bad is that maybe it's just me, but the +x to all skills is just extremely strong at the moment so it's almost required, I've had plenty of gear that's extremely good, but due to it missing +x to all skills, it made it useless and trying to reroll with a chaos orb to get +x is going to 99% of the time brick your item. This suffix being in the game is making almost all end game items a requirement to have, I'm not sure how you could go about fixing this either besides removing it as a roll, although I can't say that's a good idea either. The issue with armor is that I think it just doesn't drop the items that you're looking for, if it was possible to have a passive more aimed at ES, armor or life, getting armor that's good would be more feasible, however I'm not going to tell them how to make a game, nor am I qualified to say what a good fix for these issues would be. I hope they figure out something to fix the looting problem, a crafting bench would work, but I also don't like the idea of being able to just put whatever you want on your piece at a cost, unless it's an extensive cost, as being able to just pick certain rolls in my opinion trivializes the gearing to a degree Last edited by EliteManiac#3408 on Jan 2, 2025, 4:09:48 PM
